Yes, it is. The first answer was simpler, till someone got pedantic, so I climbed up the roster to make the same point.
No, he was right. In your first post you said something that was untrue and seemed altogether confused about the workings of the salary cap. Your later post made a clear case as to where we could potentially find cap room to add more talent.
All depends how they structured it, they could completely redo starting from current or they could extend starting next year. Lots of variables.
After we trim the roster with guys not making the team we should have 8-10 mil depending on who they cut.
After rookies we will have like 5.5-6mil so maybe my statement of 8-10mil is a little high but 8-8.5 Mil space is easy just playing with the numbers a little. A few cuts here and there and its possible. I think Babin might get cut that's another mil after subtracting dead money and about a half mil for a low price guy that makes the roster in his place. Other fringe players like Jarrett or A.Allen would each save about a 1mil, Still others only few hundred thousand but it ads up. Even so I'd say roll it over to next year
If you take the cap of $143,280,000 and add the carryover $12,619,314 they have $155,899,314 total cap space Current top 51 are $145,316,317 and add rookie pool of $4,999,507 only for top 3 since 4th, 5th and 7th rd picks would not break the top 51, then they are at $150,315,824 $155,899,314 minus $150,315,824 leaves $5,583,490. Of course during camp this will fluctuate some and may have to add a little for signing bonuses but I think they will still end up with $3.5-4.5 million to work with. Of course I am not an expert at this so I very well could be wrong.
I think I over estimated on some contracts, the NFLPA website shows the jets still have $9,532,049 in cap room with the carry over. The list is generated daily so should have all the rookies and FA signings on there. https://www.nflpa.com/public-salary-cap-report Sportrac say we have $6,587,529 and I don't see any contracts missing from there. Not sure how often they update. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york-jets/cap/ Overthecap seems to be falling behind the other sites now.
Spotrac has Leonard Williams included in he $6,587,529 total and says $12K after including the draft pool. It seems that the $12K number is double counting the rookies. Maybe we do have some money to spend after all.
That all depends on how reasonable Wilkerson is willing to be. We may have to pay for two new starters at OT next year.
How many people would crap themselves if the Jets signed Wilk long term and then traded Richardson next season?
If I had to choose between the two right now I keep Richardson but depending on what we got in return I could live with it. We don't need five all pros on the defensive line to succeed.
Snacks is not an all pro and neither is Coples, how can't you understand what a trio of Richardson Wilkerson and Williams can offer? And yes they can afford it since there is no monster QB contract causing them to make the tough decision
