RIP BB One of THE all time living legends now in Rock nRoll heaven WOW takes me back to when I am a kid in HS and went to my first concert at Fillmore East and it was BB King will never forget Some controversy surrounding him and his estate, guardians etc before he passed. Hope there is no foul play
Can you imagine what "Lucille" will go for at auction? Get ready for the real Family Feud. RIP BB... He was one of my Dad's favs..
It was prob 8-9 years ago and BB was playing in JAX. Tickets weren't cheap, and in my head was "This dude is so old..... " and passed. Granted this decision was also made after going to see the "performance" of Bo Didley a few years prior. Shortly after, a girl I was "dating" said she went with her family and said it may have been the best live performance she's ever seen. I think I'm gonna jam some Blues today
My dad loves the blues and loves King so I know a little part of my dad died today, think I will give him a call and say hello.
His influence on us and artist around him is unmatched. A great loss of a great blues artist. A very blue day. With my favorite couple See post below
Beat me to it. Ironically that was the phrase I used in my tweet...."The thrill is Gone" I would say the King is dead long live the Queen, but Amy Winehouse beat him to the great beyond...
First of all, kudos Dierking, that is a top 10 TGG thread title of all time. Saw BB about 5 years ago at some outdoor venue in CT and he was great but after the concert I told all my friend who hadn't seen him to do it soon because he wasn't going to be on this earth much longer. He lasted longer than I thought. All time great guitarist and one of my favorites, he'll be missed. RIP. _
Out of the three kings, I was always an Albert King devotee, but BB had a much bigger school. That minor key vibrato inspired a million other copiests. Like Buddy, said, every guitar should have a BB on it. His early singles are his best I think.
Love the earlier B.B. too Saw Albert at the Village Vanguard in NYC back in the mid eighties. Awesome in the small venue. Albert's licks got around some too...
Oh man. I used to stay up at night with my lefty Mexican strat and Born Under A Bad Sign on the phones and try and mimic those licks. But Albert had that Flying V, upside down with that special tuning..... Aww man, not fair! Lonnie Mack used the same model. Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Miles' used to sing Albert King licks at parties.
