I'm a mess on this, I've torn apart the film of Geno's career and Fitz's last 4 years and I've gone back and forth over who I want to start almost daily. Geno is actually starting to grow on me again, but I'm done with this for now. I'll make my decision as training camp goes on, right now I'm 50/50; this should really, honestly be an equal competition and the best man starts.

His debut was a big gutsy comeback against Tampa (even if he got a bit lucky) and his last game was like the best game statistically from anybody all season. Obviously there was a lot of shit in between, but the argument that he hasn't showed any signs at all doesn't fall well with me.

I'm not a "Geno guy," I think his projection is probably an NFL backup. His competition is Ryan Fitzpatrick and if he can't beat Fitz out in a fair competiton, he doesn't deserve anything from the organization. He has a ton of NFL games played for someone you'd think of as a project. But he's still here, see what happens, none of us really "know." I feel like a lot of people on both sides are getting too emotional about something that's up in the air, and it will only get worse as preseason gets closer.

You make a good point about how much he has played and it is why I say I have not seen flashes. I mean after two years there are not enough signs from him. For some reason he just keeps getting a break and is still called a project. Heck, All the NFL draft guys call Petty a project and give him about a year to develop. Geno has gotten two already as a starter and is still called a project.

Baltimore fans are millenials who jumped on a bandwagon or Redskins fans who were fickle. Baltimore fans are usually preppy douchebags from the DMV.

Geno is going to get his opportunity to start for sure.

Hopefully in the offseason he studied/practiced his ass off.

Geno succeeding is the best case scenario for Jets fans, but the problem is that so many have given up on him. That perception of failure creates a toxic environment where he and the coaching staff are always playing scared out of fear that they will be the next billboard casualty. I think this mentality will cause us to continue failing in developing young QBs, and we should stop wasting draft picks and focus on bringing in veterans.

Sorry, but I can't see Bowles or Gailey coaching scared, or Mac letting the threat of a billboard deter him from what he knows to be best, either. IMO, it's only a "toxic" problem in the media and on Jets fan sites.

Last year people bashed me for saying we should start geno over vick all season long no matter what because even if vick was better we still werent a playoff team and "finding out what we have in geno" is more important to the franchise moving forward

geno played nearly a full season and people still arent sold on him and say they want to see more before evaluating. i can only imagine how it would be if he didnt play much last year.

Definitely agree with this, but Jetaho is right about Smith. If he were to improbably turn on the light, it'd be great for the Jets.

I thought the same thing about Rex, until he started in with the danger level play calling bullshit with Sanchez. It got completely ridiculous when we ran the ball every play at home against Miami last year ... and almost won!

Can you think about how different things could be now if he hadn't come back? That might have changed the Jets mind on him, they go with someone like Robert Woods instead in the 2nd and wait till 2014 to draft a QB. Oh, to dream.

I'm not sure I understand, are you saying Ryan was calling the offense? Damn he must have been one busy guy every week.

I understand where you're coming from, but I realized fairly early on that Rex was just all mouth and bluster, and almost never backed up his big talk with his actions. I don't think that Bowles is even remotely similar to Rex in that regard. In fact, I think the only similarity between the two is that they were both DCs, favor the base 3-4 alignment, but like to mix things up, be creative and blitz a lot. As men and their character, they are nothing alike imo.

I see Bowles as a man of high character. While Rex IS a character (a buffoonish one) imo, he has little or no real character.

I agree with Jetaho on that aspect. We ALL should hope that we were wrong about Smith and that he will develop into a quality starter, no matter how improbable that may be. If Petty and Geno both develop, the Jets will be set at QB for at least a couple of years, then they can trade one for at least a #1 pick and possibly multiple picks.

We'd have an average receiver in Woods, probably Johnny 8-ball stuck in rehab in your scenario. Idk if that's much better

Rex had his nose in the offense. Was Ground N Pound Schotty's idea, then Fasano, then MM? It was Rex's idea to use those level of danger cards with Sanchez and it was also his idea to run the ball every down against Miami.
