Even he's basically admitted it. He mocks himself all the time as the "Worst QB Ever to Win a SB". He's a pretty funny guy and a good analyst and he knows QBs, but even he gets his place in history. _
They didn't win any more because every QB they started after that was even worse than Dilfer, the Ravens were always terrible at finding them right up until they drafted Flacco
Why is this guy Bills Over Jets not banned? He's the most obvious case of a message board troll I have ever seen.. Every post I have seen from him lately states how "Jets fans are so fucking stupid." Honestly dude, get a fucking life.
I loved watching Billick meltdown on the sidelines when Kyle Boller would suck it up. Man, Billick looked like his head would pop at times...hilarious. I thought getting rid of Dilfer was on Billick, and a mistake
Hey look, I'm not gonna be delusional and say this team has a good chance of winning the Super Bowl but they can make the playoffs anything can happen in the NFL playoffs. It's not like the other 3 major sports where you need to take 4 of 7; it's one day, one game, and a lot of times the team that wins it all isn't the best team in the NFL. The Ravens weren't when they won in 2012 and the Giants weren't in either of their 2 runs. What did those teams have in common? Great defensive lines. You gotta stop the run in January if you want to win. If we get lucky we can run into a couple games where it's sub 30 degrees and both teams are forced into a downhill running attack. That plays to our strength on both sides of the ball. Just make the playoffs and who knows what'll happen.
this is spot on... comparing David Harris to Rey Lewis is just stupid. Lewis was the best linebacker in football in pass coverage and the best in the league at stopping the run. not many, if any where even close. Harris is a liability in coverage, and will good vs the run still wasnt in Rey Lewis class. The ravens pass rush was undoubtely better then ours while Revis is a god, overall their secondary may have been better. at the very least calling it on par with ours seems fair. i think we can be a top 3 defense, i think it is crazy to think we would be close to as good as that team. not unless williams isntantly turns itno a watt level player or maulding becomes a suggs level player and we get great safety play and find someone ot cover tight ends
Tight ends, running backs out of the backfield and slot receivers are all huge threats to our defense. We can probably take away the running game and the deep passing game but those underneath throws where you need safeties or linebackers in coverage are still really hazardous because we really didn't do much to enhance ourselves there.
It will be interesting to see, but I think you could quite possibly be wrong about Mac not having done much to "enhance ourselves there." For one thing, Mac added Marcus Gilchrist, Buster Skrine, Jamari Lattimore and Erin Henderson. We don't know effectively they may fill some of those roles. If Bowles will be anywhere near as effective in putting his players in positions to succeed and in scheming as he was with the Cardinals, there should definitely be improvement in this area. Secondly, the level of coaching could be significantly better, and Demario Davis, Antonio Allen, Calvin Pryor and others might become much better through better coaching, more experience, better scheming and because they're put in a position to succeed.
I'd take Skrine out of it because I'm just talking about linebacker and safety play. Gilchrist is known to be a better strong safety so I'll wait and see how he works in coverage and I can't legitimately speak to Lattimore or Henderson either. Time will tell, but I think we may have left the defense exposed in the middle of the field. Hopefully I'm way wrong, it would really be the only hole in the defense though.
Honestly, with the rules the way they are today, it'll be hard to have a defense like the 85 Bears, or 00 Ravens.
Oh please. Dilfer was not the reason they won SB XXV. He didn't fuck it up and he can be commended for that, but he is not why they won. Not even close.
Really? at Tennessee who was defending AFC Champ, at Gannon and Oakland who would win AFC 2 years later. the SB was easy but the div rd and title games were not. where did I say he was the reason they won? he was a key piece but obviously they won w/ D first but even the greatest Ds need quality QB play to win. w/o him they don't win.
Yeah. Really. Total points the Ravens allowed in the entire playoffs (4 games) was 23 whole points. WOW Dilfer really had a tough go of it . AFC Wildcard Bal 21 Den 3 AFC Divisional Bal 24 Ten 10 AFC Championship Bal 16 Oak 3 SB XXV Bal 34 NYG 7 ALL of them were EASY
When you say that Baltimore's D never won another one you are implying Dilfer was the reason they won. Dilfer wasn't a key piece. He just didn't fuck it up like Tony Banks was earlier in the season. Big difference.
what happens if he's turning it over like crazy? and he still needs to lead them to points, w/ a D nearly as good the Ravens at home didn't allow a TD to Indy and still lost in 2006.
I am implying he was vital to the run nit that he was THE reason. They won w/ D first but again even great Ds need quality QB play to win. Not making the big mistake can be HUGE especially w/ a great D.
He didn't turn it over equates to him not fucking it up. His whopping 5 completions in the Div game were surely why they won right? Maybe his 23 total completions in the AFC playoffs were why they won right?
