He obviously has the intelligence to, but we've all seen him play several times....... he has the propensity to throw some mindnumbing Sanchez-esque INTS

How good is as advertised though? Top 3? Top 10?

2000 Ravens had an all time great D. I don't think we're gonna have one of those this year so that plus the way the game has changed in the last 15 years tells me that a game manager can only take a team so far.

Even today's definition of a game manager QB Alex Smith has really only found success in San Fran and KC when he took his game beyond that.

It's hard to say what type of numbers would be good enough for our QB because stats are often misleading but IMO something around 25 TDs and 15 picks would most likely get us to the playoffs.

The problem is that Fitz is not a game manager. He's a gunslinger with a weak arm. He takes a lot of chances and doesn't protect the ball.

yea I don't see the comparison. also, can we wait for a down of football to be played before we compare the d to the 00 ravens?

Just as QB is the key for how well our offense will do, LB'rs are going to be the biggest question mark for the defense.
You're only as good as your weakest link.

    Yes.

However if the reports of Marshall taking Smith under his wing, maybe the change can do both of them good.

We will see when the bullets start flying in Pre season

I dont think its nearly as simple as that.

is our LG/RG/RT spots as good as that ravens team
is our special teams as good as that ravens team (they were elite in the return and coverage game)

also situationally will our D be as good. 3rd downs? takeaways? keeping teams just out of FG range, etc..

Mauldin and Taiwan Jones will do just fine for us at LBer, with the old guys we have, this unit will shine.

Jersey jay, couldn't agree with you more. When it's all well and done, he might turn out to be the steal of the draft and the heart and soul of the D. When he starts making tackles all over the back field all the draft gurus won't give a damn what his combine speed for the 40 dash was.

You're right, but he's improved with age. 17 TD 8 INT last year I believe vs Geno's career best ratio of 13:13
    2.125 is a lot better than 1.000
If he throws significantly more TD's than picks, he really has a good shot at being a top 20, "good enough" game manager type of guy. Especially with weapons like Marshall, Decker, Smith... More than enough targets

James Carpenter will be good enough and improve either Brick or Giacomini's play depending on which side he's on. But yeah Colon and Breno are average, not great
    Special teams I don't know
3rd downs scare me for the jets traditionally, but with our combination of a pass rush and competent CB's, I'm really only worried about the TE's and Julian Edelman's of the world on 3rd this year
Takeaways should be the most significantly improved jets stat this year
Out of FG range idk, we will have to see

To me the Ravens seemed to have a more balanced defense. We excel at CB and DL but our LB's aren't too far above average and our Safeties aren't anything special

We can only have a great D if they are off the field for long periods. If Fitzpatrick consistently generates a bunch of 3 and out's then the D # ranking will plummet, no matter how much $ we lock up there.

Fitzpatrick is better than I think a lot of you give him credit for
There will be 3 and outs of course, but there shouldn't be a bunch

In 1985 the Chicago Bears with a suffocating defense and an avg offense proved to be the best football team on Planet Earth.

In 2000 the Baltimore Ravens with a suffocating defense and an avg offense eeked out a WC birth and went on to become the best football team on Planet Earth.

In 2015 the NY Jets with a suffocating defense and an avg offense eeked out a WC birth and went on to become ........

    15 yr cycle?

I don't think the 2000 Ravens said "We're not the 1985 Bears, we have no shot".
