we'll find out this year this year that Rex & his crew were Geno's downfall. I know what Geno can do and obviously Rex & co. didn't. He failed their system yes, but you can't force a young QB to play a system he never played in his life and expect positive results. Geno is a slinger He throws vertically.. that west coast 3 step drop hit the slant bullshit... man.. WHO THE FUCK STILL DOES THAT SHIT. Little 5 yard hook routes and high school play calls.. any QB gonna look bad running that shit.. it's too easy for pro defenses. when geno makes plays its always plays where he actually lets it rip downfield. We also needed to run more.. the balance was terrible and we had no real identity as a team. im not saying geno never stunk it up im just saying he was just another player on a terribly coached offense. last year he threw 13 TDS & 13 ints.. 60% passing.. not good at all but that's definitely fixable. him & decker have a good chemistry he had almost as many catches as he had in Denver in 2013 plus 960 yards (left few games with injury) & now he has 2 more weapons in MARSHALL & Dev Smith. and an OC that runs an offense more suitable to his style of play. Hopefully if we get good blocking im sure we'll see a much improved Geno... it's his last shot but my god you would think he's been doing this for 8 years and still can't get it.. it's only his 3rd year ! Only his first with a REAL offense & offensive coordinator.
Oh absolutely if he has a 3 pick 1st quarter you pull the plug, but I think 4 games is fair unless he goes 0-2 with 2 horrible games.
I would just clarify that his performance is more relevant than whether the team wins the game or not.
Very true, Philly and Indy both have very high scoring offenses so you can't really knock him if he doesn't keep up with them, even though our defense should slow them a little.
Actually my point was more the opposite, that if the Jets win the game but Smith sucked, he should not get credit for the win.
Obviously everybody has their own definition of what they consider "good" play. But if we can come to a consensus on this using a current or past QB as a barometer. What must he do in order for him to buy himself another year? If he can give us 21 TD's 12 INT's while passing the eye test with a stark improvement in his decision making I think that would buy him another year.
If we're looking at just numbers, I don't really disagree -- 21 total TDs and 12 or less total TOs would definitely do it for me. What I really want to see him (or any QB, whether it's Fitz, Petty, Smims, Heaps, or [insert name]) is win or close out games in the fourth quarter: a QB that the team and the fans can trust.
I'm sure hoping that those of you that are predicting or wishing for Genos demise fully recognize that if that was to happen it would not, repeat would not be in the Jets best interest. In fact it would be probably our worst scenario. The best scenario is this: Geno takes it to a new level by playing smart and in a system that is best suited to his strengths, not the ground and punt BS we got from Rex. With that, Fitz would be a strong back up and Petty can sit, learn and lead this franchise in the future. Having two or three NFL QBs could be a dream come thru. If Geno completely flops we gain nothing.
Amen! Some Jets fans kill me. They'd rather be "right" and the Jets suffer for it than be "wrong" and see the Jets succeed or things go well for the Jets. Must be some kind of neurosis or psychosis developed from the trauma of rooting for this team all these years.
it would EASILY be in the jets interest. nothing could be worst then for geno to continue to be mediocure and the jets to keep giving him chances. geno can raise his game 5 times and still not be good enough to make us a contender. we need to move on from him sooner then later and get as many other options in here as possible we gain ALOT by geno flopping. we gain moving on earlier rather then wasting time.
I'm not hoping for his demise but I am definitely predicting it. And it's not as black and white as you want to make it sound, Geno could improve just enough to keep the job because right now there isn't an impressive amount of competition at the position, and the Jets could depend on him improving more a following year when that improvement to the level of average NFL QB (which admittedly would be a vast improvement from what he has been the past 2 seasons) could well be his ceiling, hence setting the team back by waiting for a top 10 QB that will not arrive.
What? If Geno raises his game 5 fold as you mentioned or improves his TD to Interception ratio by five we could be in the final dance LOL. On the other hand if Geno flops we gain absolutely nothing in 2015 except to satisfy the ego of those of us who never considered him the answer. Ok, whoopee dooo, so we confirm he is a flop, a wasted pick, and that's a gain? I call that a major step back. Fitz was brought in as an insurance policy not a successor. Smart move but if we are lucky we don't need to cash the policy in. Petty is not ready and pushing him in too early would be a travesty. So if things go south we weather it out with Fitz and continue in the look out for another QB in the 2016 draft to compete with Petty. That might be the final outcome, but all it does is set us back once again. If you call establishing Geno a bust once and for all and allow us to move forward with someone else next year an advantage for the Jets, then we have a total different interpretation of what the meaning of gain is. IMO, If Geno becomes "the guy" we are set for years to come and blessed with a talented youngster behind him ready to fill in and carry the torch when he is ready. You can even trade Geno for picks. If he is a bust we bet it all on Petty or start the musical chairs once again. It might well be reality, but sure as hell is not a gain for us. Not in 2015.
I don't disagree with your feedback, if Geno is marginally better than the back up then we are just buying time. But if he flourishes we gain a damned good season n 2015.
Yes I agree it would be an excellent situation. I may not have any faith that he will achieve that but I am sure hoping for it
