Fitz is only 32, I hate to use the term "long-term stopgap" but if he puts up a decent year, Petty isn't ready and we're drafting in the mid teens I'd be completely fine letting him start again next year. It would bring us continuity at QB for once. It all depends on how things shake out this season.
If I wasn't so lazy...I'd put up a poll that would ask who gives us more wins this season...Geno or Fitz. So?
I'd say 10 for Fitz, 8 for Geno. I think a lot of people would put Geno lower but I would expect improvement from him if he starts. I don't think Fitz wouldn't necessarily "win" us the extra 2 games more so that Geno would "lose" 2.
Well, no one wanted to trade Wilk in a package for Mariota, I can't believe folks would sign up for trading him for one of the inferior QBs next year. _
I think anything in regards to Jones should be reserved until he has played at least a full season. Let's see how good he is when opponents have tape. Jones does have the most potential, but other then that - that's where the argument ends. I said it in the draft board, I hope Petty progresses and becomes the man, but the chances of him becoming that guy are slim to none. If we go 8-8 next season, more than likely the QB held us back yet again - this team is has good talent. If the Jets aren't afraid to draft a d-lineman in the first, they won't be scared to draft one in the first round if they are the BPA. I would gladly take one of the QBs from 2016 if we are in position to do so. Cook is my guy, he has improved every single year as a starter w/ good skill-sets.
nah..they won't trade him for that reason, it will be for money of course but in the end that might be what they use the picks for.
Correction. I would have been for trading Wilk for the #2 pick with the #6 pick if in return the Jets also got next year's second round Tits pick. To be clear that is assuming the Jets could not sign Wilk for what they think is a reasonable number.
Well, I know I've been busting your balls for a year now but I'll be watching Cook every game and rooting for him. I hope he improves and is a viable option for us. I'll also watch a lot of Goff. I want NOTHING to do with Hack--he's awful. _
You were one of the more reasonable posters on that account. Folks here were apoplectic "How can you trade a local New Jersey boy (like that matters) and our best player....for a potential franchise QB?!?" Crazy, right? _
If Cook plays like absolute shit, you can bash me all you want as it's warranted. I always mentioned, Cook won't be a top 5 QB in this league, but the Jets can absolutely win with him and he's not going to hold the team back. That I believe. He could be our version of Flacco. He needs to improve, he doesn't have the upside of Jones or Goff - those guys have super-star potential. I am not asking for that though. Jets don't need a superstar at the QB position.
No. I aspire to have a below average to average game manager that doesn't turn the ball over that we can win 9 games with every other year because of a stout defense but still get summarily bounced in the wild card playoff game. I am a Jet fan, hear me roar. _
It would be nice to have a QB put up video game stats, but I want someone that when the game is on the line they come through in the clutch. A cold-blooded QB. Doesn't make many mistakes - has skills that translate to the NFL.
I want a superstar QB putting up video game stats who is also a cold-blooded QB to come through in the clutch. I want Aaron Rogers. I want Drew Brees. I want Tom Brady. I want Peyton Manning. Hell, I'll take Eli or Flacco or Ben. I want an elite QB. Is that too much to dream for? For once I want a superstar QB who can do it in the regular season and the playoffs. Middle of the pack QBs don't rise to the occasion enough to get to the SB, much less be cold blooded enough to win. _
You're being sarcastic. Sanchez didn't get "bounced". Mariota was a pie in the sky. I don't think he'll ever be more than serviceable. If I'm wrong, so what? He'll never be a Jet.
Just losing to the Titans in the regular season would have been easier. I know, I know, bad fan how could anyone be such a bad fan. Lol but us real fans well we will cherish that regular season win for decades, it was monumental!!
It's very early, and I'd rather watch how next season plays out before I call for Geno's head, but as of today I'd take Goff over Cardale, Hackenberg, and Cook any day of the week. He's going to be nitpicked, because of the offense he's coming drom, but he has an extremely strong (probably the strongest in CFB), and amazing pocket presence.
I wasn't being sarcastic and (i) I'm a huge Sanchez fan and was not alluding to him and (ii) no one knew for sure Mariota was pie in the sky until a few days before the draft, mand even then it wasn't certain. But I'll stand by my statement, some freaking day I'd like a superstar QB. I'll never aspire to wanting "just a guy who is average and doesn't turn it over we can win games with him". _
