Yet again it's going to be a fun preseason to watch, which isn't a good thing. Fans of good teams get to watch their starting offense get pulled in the 2nd quarter, while we get to watch Fitz vs Geno and then the progress of Petty. I guess interesting preseasons are a perk of not having a QB. I'm really curious to see how Petty reacts to these games.
Nonsense, his teams lost because they took away all of his good players as proven by going to two straight AFCC games with fuckin Sanchez as his QB.
New here only because of Petty. Can't wait to see what he can do under Gailey. I was going to post some links to articles but I haven't posted enough to have that ability. I think his participation in the Elite 11 Camp last year will tell you a lot about who Bryce is and what kind of leader you are getting. He and a number of other QB's in this years draft were involved with some of the best high school QB's. Google some of the articles and you will be impressed. Below is an example: “He wasn’t just leading, he was changing the complexion of the entire mission, not just for his team but all the teams,” Trent Dilfer said. Tasked to fill sand bags and transport them 75 yards up a hill to build a bunker, Petty didn’t know what to do at first, but he started the process then quickly tweaked it. Later, Petty diplomatically asked the unit leader – a decorated military official – to help implement some changes. “He did this for 6 ½ hours,” Dilfer said incredulously. “They didn’t just win. They destroyed every other team.”
That's nice but I don't give a shit how good he is at filling sandbags if he folds under pressure or can't read a defense or throw from the pocket.
He had very good players esp on defense his last 4 years. The pick of the litter in the draft. Last year an inexperienced secondary due to injuries and not signing an experienced corner (funny the Patriots did not overpay their 2 elite corners and signed medium level guys on the cheap-lets see if they have the number of blown coverages the Jets had even though they don't have the overall talent on D the Jets do). The lack of corner excuse is BS mostly perpetrated by the press via Rex. All it is is an excuse because he had more overall talent on D than almost any team in the NFL. I give him credit for the two years of making the playoffs. But the first year they backed in. And who took away his players. This is a new one. All teams have personnel changes.
I wanted Hundley more. This is the only pick in the whole draft I didn't love though. Well see how he pans out. Either way nothing to lose and I am glad they took a QB
Welcome, thanks for the info! Here is the link: http://thrivesports.com/2014/07/09/trent-dilfer-marvels-at-bryce-petty-effort-elite-11-mission/
Absolutely. I'm hoping this year with a new regime the Jets finally do what they need to do. Have an open competition at QB and let the better player start the season. I doubt Petty really makes a push for the starting job in year 1, but Geno vs. Fitz could be a close battle.
Sandbags are one thing, but did Winston and Mariota throw him the keys to the car when they all hung out together?
I have a quick question: Let's assume Petty rides the bench all year and continues to learn. Geno and Fitzpatrick are not long term answers most likely, does drafting Petty prevent the Jets from considering QB in Round 1 of the 2016 draft?
Not in the slightest. If Geno proves that he will never be our franchise Qb this year, I don't think Mac will hesitate to draft a potential Qb in the first round.
Absolutely not, and I'm on the Petty chuck wagon. If Jones or Hack (lol) or Cook (lol) or Goff (who knows) has a stellar year and we're drafting low enough to take one, you absolutley need to do it. It's one of the things Idzik fucked up royally, trying to hide his pfail with Geno by passing on Teddy and Carr. _
Cook > Goff > Hack >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Petty in 1 season. I hope Petty works out some crazy ass way, but chances of that are slim to none.
Or..if we end up trading Wilkerson for 1 or maybe 2 first round picks we probably have enough ammo to take the best QB in the draft next year and I am guessing that is what we do no matter who has a good year from the current crop we have now.
