Brandon Marshal- 6-4 and very physical. a technician at the position that knows how to gain separation from defenders. a fierce competitor that catches in traffic better than most any WR in this league. he's got fair speed, but then its never been a major asset of his game, we've got an elite possession threat on a fair deal for the next 3 years. Eric Decker- our 6-3 jack of all trades. Nearly as physical as Marshall but faster and is an unheralded deep threat himself, Decker brings just about everything to the table one way or another. stick him anywhere, at split-end in the slot, he brings it just about everywhere you need him to. Jeremy Kerley- 5-9, quick, agile and quite reliable. what he lacks in size he gains in cut and through the years he shown his norm is as a deceptively talented inside man despite a down year. Devin Smith- 6 feet even, young, cheap, and a major asset as a deep threat. though his specialty is over the shoulder grabs and his route running need's refining he's by no means incapable of competing in the intermediate passing game. really he's the perfect player to develop next to the other 3 and is sure to get his high profile moments in the sun in his rookie campaign. Evans, Owusu, Enunwa, Grahm, Hakim- a fair amount of depth options with their own individual bits of upside as possession receivers, fill in options, or special teams prowess. short of a clear KR theres really no weaknesses to this corps. forget number ones or twos, we have a versatile mix of youth and experience, speed and power, and physical and technical skill. The 2015 jets are ready to role as far as receivers go, they'll make Geno and Ryan's job that much easier.
Definitely the best arsenal since 2010. Amaro and Cumberland will be in the mix. Kerley got screwed out of a Td (green bay) and the one he caught in the back of the end zone against Chicago (that was most likely not a catch, regardless)...but his play seemed a bit suspect at times last season. Hope he shows more fight this season. No more Drops Decker!
Looking forward to watching Evans, Owusu, and Enunwa battle it out. Apparently, coaches have seen improvement in Enunwa's route running abilities. I hope he improves enough to replace Marshall down the road.
I personally would take that 02 corps, but that's semantics. Either way, the point stands: this is an equally as balanced WR corps as we've had in probably the franchise's history.
By the time Holmes left I pretty much couldn't find anything nice to say, but in 2010 he was balling still. Edwards was a beast down the sideline. 2010 those three guys played high-high level that we haven't seen since. Chrebet is a legend. Coles and Moss were great too. Coles always got the extra yard. Shit... I think Moss may even still be in the league(incredible athlete) . Coles is the biggest out of that group..which isn't saying much..they were small.
if this rookie can turn into a consistent deep threat this may be the best WR corps we have ever had since I have been watching.
I mean, think about it. That 2010 corps fit well and played well. That 02 team has some Jet greats on it. This receiving corps blows either one of them out of the water IMO. It's crazy the kind of work we've done the past two years to get the position solidified. Unfortunately we've been rotating turds in and out at QB since then.
Moss missed pretty much all of 2001 so he was almost like a rookie in 2002, Wayne caught a bunch of TDs that year but his recs were down as he was heading toward the end of his career(this was the last season he would have more than 31 recs in a season). Coles was the beast that year and better than anyone on the '10 team but after Holmes' suspension he and Braylon were really good, Cotch when healthy really good and we had a pass catching TE which we didn't have in 2002. I think '10 was better than '02 but I loved both groups.
Lav Coles, Santana Moss, Wayne Chrebet--loved that trio. Still think Coles for that very short period was one of our most dynamic WRs--was so pissed when he went to Washington. _
Coles played with hunger, with fire. Even when we were shitty he was trying to score touchdowns. I think it was against Tampa Bucs or New Orleans Saints at home we were out of playoffs or at least written out by everyone...Either a Thursday night, Sunday Night or Monday night...Hardly any fans in the building... Coles made a td catch that went under review ... Jets fans didn't even want the TD bc vying for a draft spot. Play got over turned... wasn't a td, but sure looked like one to me. Coles wanted it.
I knew someone would remember that. I thought it was a catch. Jets glasses...it really looked like one though. Coles still fighting
