Some of these guys were here since 2000 junc. Our GMs have had shorter leashes then our scouts that's not right.
people forget we had our longest era of success since about that time, it wasn't the '12-14 Jets or we would have made more changes.
Most wins we had was 10 in a season outside of 2010. No home playoff games, no division titles (when we had opportunities to get there) Shouldn't we be striving for something greater? I think so.
Yes it does--but those who got the axe had the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and apparently failed to impress. I'm sure there were some who kept their job. This is A+ management.
we had 1 AFC East title which equaled the # we had from 1970-2001 and we had 1 home playoff game. the biggest reason we didn't see more was b/c of that little dynasty in Foxboro. it made it impossible to win a division and get home games(remember, starting in 2002 you had to win a div to get a home playoff game in WC or div rd).
Big whoop, Idzik did the same thing. Again, simply firing old scouts is the course of action for a new regime after the draft.
We had chances to win the division. 2010, 2008, 2001 specifically. We have been good for 2 years then suck for 2 years. It goes back to sustained success argument (which is ONLY achievable via the draft). We have not drafted well, hopefully this is the start of something new
I think Idzik mostly kept some of the old scouts and personnel people but made a few hires. Like for example, Rod Graves. Who Mac kept on in a cap type of position. I wonder if Graves is next to go. As another poster said, this is the way things operate in the NFL. Front office people and scouts are fired after the draft. So maybe it's not as heartless as it looks. But Mac knows he will eventually get fired too, probably. If the team suffers through multiple losing years. And if he wants to get his own people in place this is ok. At least if you go down go down swinging. Hopefully he will be successful and be our long time GM.
the div winner in 2010 was 14-2, would you rather have had the div title and lose in the div rd or earn a WC then beat that div winner? we had a great chance in 2008 thanks to Brady's injury but we know why we missed. had a great chance in 2001 too, beginning of the Brady dynasty. we had sustained success until a few years ago. 1997-2011(15 seasons) we had only 3 losing seasons, 1960-1996/2012-2015(40 seasons) we had 20. 20 in 40 is 50% of the time, 3 in 15 is 20% of the time playoff apps: 1997-2011: 7 in 15, 47% 1960-1996/2012-2015: 7 in 40, , 18% playoff wins: 1997-2011: 7 in 15 1960-1996/2012-2015: 5 in 40 years we never went longer than 2 seasons w/o a playoff app. we missed an entire decade once.
Why compare our current history to the crap we had before? Things have been better, but there is always room for improvement. We had our best chance in 2009 and 2010, but after that we went to complete crap and haven't done anything since. I am 100% sure better drafting would have extended our window to win it all.
so you think last year is the same as 2010? I think it's pretty hard to win a SB if you can't even make the playoffs.
“I appreciate their contributions to the organization and wish them the best in the future,” General Manager Mike Maccagnan said in a statement. Oooo..that's cold.
I can sleep easier knowing that none of the remnants from the Bradway scouting era still exist in Florham Park. Good time to be a Jets fan.
