Naw, me either but it is fun to try to pick who has the best potential to make the team at least as a special teams player.

Jones is really the only one I could see cracking the roster.

I hope Saxton outplays Cumberland though

    I like it.

A- but drops to a D if another AFC East team gets La'el Collins instead of us.

Saxton makes the roster in my opinion. He's a cheaper, younger, more dynamic version of Cumberland. He's pretty impressive as a vertical threat for a TE. Reminds me a bit of Charles clay without the blocking ability.

Cumberland can't really block and would save us $2mm if cut.

So how many do we have on the roster now, about 115-120? nm, looks like we dropped a bunch since the last time I looked and with these it's closer to 100 now.

Once we sign our draft picks the number will be 95 if all of the UDFAs are kept on after rookie camp - looks like some of the future / reserve contracts signed will be dropped also

Need to have no more than 90 when Training Camp starts

Victor Green too. Plus, don't forget there is one UDFA on the Jets who went on to have a hell of a career in the NFL: Todd Bowles.

udfa is actually a very important thing. to gleen talent out of this pool is a big help to making strong teams. as was pointed out above if saxton comes in and performs better than cumberland then we have an upgrade which cost us nothing by way of draft picks or trades and he is cheap as are all udfas which saves big amounts of money. 2 million was stated in the post above.

the ahh who cares or the training camp fodder crowd really dont understand how big of a help it is to find udfas that can contribute.

I gotta agree with you guys there. If there is one position where a UDFA could come on and score a spot it would be at TE. I'd like to see Pantale stick as the 3rd TE, the kid did a good a nice job in preseason and is a decent blocker. However, he probably doesn't have enough upside to holdover. Sad thing is the guy might be the 1st or 2nd best blocking TE we have.

Kellen Davis. You're forgetting about him. Hands like bricks but he's a very good run blocker. I think the three TEs will be Amaro, Davis and unfortunately Cumberland.

A number of UDFAs go on to make teams every year, and it's not that small a number who become very good starters. I think you're underrating the UDFAs a little. Scouts and GMs miss. Look at Brady falling to the 6th round. That's a perfect example. Some players are late bloomers either because they didn't get the proper coaching earlier, were in the wrong systems for their talents, or didn't have the benefits of an NFL weight and training program. Some also just peak later, while some players ability peaks in high school or college. This is an area where desire, heart and character can also have a big impact.

I liked Ryan Spadola more than any UDFA in a while; our receiving corps was shit and he had a terrific preseason, yet he still got cut. I root for the guys but even the best ones have trouble sticking.

Man... Ryan Spadola. Remember when we cut him, then he signed with the Fins and everyone freaked out?

Ryan Spadola has played in 4 games, hasn't caught a single ball and is now on the Falcons practice squad.
