We came out of the draft with 0 speed in the backfield. That was one of the biggest and honestly one of the only needs. We passed on Duke Johnson when he was there for the taking and traded for Zac Stacy. I'm not quite sure what Mac, Bowles and Chan are doing in the backfield but it's a mess right now. That's my only complaint coming out of this draft... Duke Johnson.
I can't see not liking this trade, Stacy comes here with a chip on his shoulder and all we can do is benefit from that. If the kid has a season like he did year before last both he and Ivory are going to put a hurtin' on defenses.
Another thing in Stacy... we are looking at his rookie season totals as what he has the potential to be but breaking down those numbers.... In four games that year: 114 carries 498 yards 4 TD 2013 total: 250 carries 973 yards 7 TD That's more than half his yards, about half his attempts and more than half his TDs in four games. That whole rookie season was kind of a facade. He's not good, and that will probably show in camp.
id have been PISSED with gurley even if we took him in round 4. its runningback. its a borderline irrelevant position. fill it with a 3 headed monster of warm bodies.
whatever. we have 4 backs on the roster. if one isnt running well you put in one of the other guys. im glad we got another body on low investment. thats how we go, and i wasnt sold on ridley coming off injury. all i really want at RB is someone who wont get hurt and wont fumble
speed at running back is never a need. unless the guy is also returning kicks or someting. and using a 2nd or 3rd on a running back is throwing a pick away. we have guys who can carry the ball and who can get it done in protection. thats all you need.
You have some whacked out opinions on RBs man. We get it, you don't value RBs. But to say speed at running back is never a need?
Anyone not liking this trade is a moron We gave a 7th for a rb who in his rookie year had over 1000 total yards in 12 starts and is entering his third season with minimal mileage It's irrelevant what else is on the depth chart its a great great value If u don't like this for that reason you should also be consistent and say you don't like Leonard Williams pick bc its the same exact thing
I don't think there's anyone out there that doesn't like it because rarely do you EVER find someone that sticks with the 224th pick in the draft, but there ar plenty of us that see Stacy for what he is. Check the numbers a few posts up. Stacy rushed for over 900 yards his rookie year, but more than half those yards came in 4 of his 14 games played. He was mediocre to bad in every other game. I don't think it's a coincidence that he was just as bad last year. It's a no risk trade... I just don't know that we're getting a guy who will even make the roster, much like the 7th rounder he was traded for.
Again .... Its irrelevant .... The guy is young and has produced on the NFL level .. He took the league by storm not too long ago...the value here is tremendous its a total win win for the jets
He took the league by storm... for 4 games... in which he averaged 28 carries. Again... the trade is fine. Let's just stop making Stacy out to be more than he is.
He's a young promising back who has shown he can do it. He averaged 4 ypc and put up monster stats in a small sample I never said he was Barry sanders I said for a 7th you cant do much better
is running back somewhat devalued ? Yes. Would I kill to have a McCoy, Charles, Foster, Peterson, Bell or Lacy on the Jets. Yeah
I don't buy into the devaluing of rbs I think its a herd mentality. Rb is a critical position on virtually all winning teams
I'll add...I think ppl devalue them not bc of their importance but bc of their longevity...sometimes rbs don't last past their rookie deals but can be great in a short time frame and are a critical piece to a successful offense... Ask the steelers pats seahawks packers and the broncos. What has Indy and new Orleans not had? A strong running game
agreed the workhorse is a dying breed, but you don't win crap in this league with a passing game alone.
