Yep, things I like about Petty. 1) He's tough. Plays through pain and gives his body up for the score (Though he cant do that in the NFL) 2) Very quick release. 3) Great arm strength. 4) Mature and Smart Masters Degree already, and his interviews he shows both intelligence and fire. Seems like a very competitive guy. So now its getting him exposed to the NFL and a professional playbook. It will take time, but this kid is the prototypical QB if he can transition.
A question for the guys who have studied this kid: is he really so far behind because of the offense at Baylor, or does the failure of RGIII to translate college to lasting pro success cloud analysts perceptions just a little? I don't know enough about him to have an opinion.
Go get some talking points from your church elders and stop hijacking the thread with your pious high horse bullshit. _
I said two years ago that we should draft him. And honestly I've watched him long enough that I think if he came out 7 years ago during the days when QBs would always sit their first year, he would have been a top 5 pick. Love this pick and foresee him to be the next Jersey in my collection after Chrebet Pennington mangold.
kid has a farve like arm. cant teach that. he is far from a shoe in, but taking more guys who have the tools is always a good idea when you dont have a qb
Short version- It's system based, the fact that he didn't need to look for secondary receivers (hardly ever). When he needed to look to the 2nd guy, he sometimes panicked or totally missed. He only threw like 5 passes while taking the snap from under center, and sometimes makes throws from weird positions while dropping back. He relies on his arm strength a bit too much at times, and that causes some bad passes (typically over throws). Needs some time to fix some things, and learn.
Hey you brought it up, not me, I'm just defending myself. ..... do you know what the Jets gave up to move up for Petty? ... oh wait, you taught me not to listen to "talking points" from my football "elders" lol, I will "think for myself" ..... OK, putting on my thinking cap now.....focusing real hard.....OK, I got it, they traded 3 first round picks, 4 2nd round picks, and Wilkerson to move up for Petty. LMAO! (sorry, but you make yourself an easy target with your stupid, ignorant posts) And then you insist on hurling adolescent insults at me, and others...grow up, seriously, you are a child. smh Just stop it already!
Wasn't a fan when you watched him? He lit it up every game. Where weren't you impressed? The 6 td TCU game?
Can't say I'm mad at the pick based upon his skill set and competitive nature. We may be onto something with him come 2016...
I dont mind the pick. The Jets dont have a QB. Gotta get creative and take a chance somewhere. I'm glad they didnt reach for him as well.
he all shows all the qualities of QBs who consistently fail in the NFL... horrible decision making, tons of turnovers, too eager to run, struggles when he has to come off his first read. he does alot more bad then he does good. his sample of poor play is 3 to 4 times he sample of awful play. Geno can improve, but even if he does he is still average at best.
