it really isn't decker almost had 1,000 yards last year playing with an injured hammy and fricken Geno Smith throwing him the football. now you add Marshall, who was clearly injured last year and is a top 10 WR. Amaro will only improve next season and Ivory is a great back. not to mention, we aren't sure what we have in Shaq Evans yet
It's not like we used one of our draft picks to get Brandon friggen Marshall. This is like complaining that we didn't draft a RB in the year we signed Curtis Martin. There is just no pleasing some people.
Taking Gregory would be colossally stupid. He has mental issues as well as illegal drug issues. He's 30-40 pounds too light to play the 3-4 OLB position and has a problem keeping weight on. Unless the Jets are planning on switch to the 4-3 and putting Gregory at 225-230 pounds at one DE spot (Can anyone say Aaron Maybin?), taking him would be awful. He's too risky. The offense has been ignored for too long.
I don't know how you can say the offense has been ignored for too long when, in the past two years alone, we've picked up Decker, Marshall, Ridley, Amaro and Ivory. If you're talking about solely in the draft where we can stockpile young talent, then yes I semi-agree. But you can't say the offense has been ignored.
Jets could easily take DGB/Strong with their next pick, and I'm sure the same people will still bitch and moan. It will just be about something different. So many people endorse the idea of "BPA," but when the team actually does draft the best player, people bitch. It makes for good discussion on a forum for sure, but I dont understand how people can not like getting Leonard Williams. I'm sure they're the same people who bitched about drafting Sheldon Richardson.
Yes I'm not pleased that we have spent a 1st rounded on the front seven four out of the last five years. Meanwhile our offense has been shit and we are constantly shitting the bed multiple times a season due to offensive ineptness. It's just not necessary to spend 1st round picks on linemen year in and year out. The last time the Jets drafted OL in round 1 was 06, almost 10 years ago. But yet 4 out of the last 5 years we have spent 1st's on D-Linemen. It's just excessive, this team needs to go a different direction if they ever want a top 10 offense. By the looks of it I'll never live to see that day.
Everybody talks about how great offense is. As an Oregon fan (Sorry Chip) I think it's overrated. I would rather have Revis Island than a thousand yard back any day. Defense does the hard work. It endures. Go Jets!
We've reached for offensive positions before. See exhibit Stephen Hill, Sanchez, Saunders. Let's get best players and put some talent on this team so I can enjoy my Sunday's !
I am with you 100%...If offense happens to line up with BPA all the better....But round 2 and 3 take BPA.
Not one poster has suggested that we "reach" for an offensive player. Not one, so knock it off with that BS. Talking like a D player is always the BPA is just plain wrong and stupid.
Except, in this case the BPA may very well be a linebacker. If it's a WR, RB, QB or otherwise then fantastic! You won't find a complaint out of me if BPA is an offensive player. But you will find me squirming if we ignore the BPA and go offense for the sake of perceived need. There's 2 camps here. Camp 1: Take BPA. Camp 2: Take BPA, unless BPA is a defensive player, then don't aka don't take BPA.
I'm glad that the coaching staff isnt taking an offensive player because the fanbase "is sick of defensive picks." I'd be furious if that was the case.
Me too... There's a big difference between what this FO is doing and the past. In the past we would draft defensive players and ignore better offensive options BC our coach was a defensive obsessed idiot who had 0 offensive coaching talent. Here, we drafted a defensive player bc he was an unbelievable slide to our pick. And might be the same with Gregory tonight. Two very different scenarios.
Agree whole heartily. I said on on another thread. Sanchez, Wilson, Ducassee, Hill, even Coples and Milliner where based on need or pure coaches desire.
My point is that we have to just take best player available and taking someone who isn't the best guy we have a shot at just because he fits a need or is an offensive player is reaching. That's all. I would love an offensive tackle in the 2nd, but if he's not the best player we can't reach. That's all I'm saying.
Again, no one said we had to "reach" for an offensive player, especially me. We are in agreement about not reaching. I'm certain that Mac had offers for the #6 pick. For instance, he could have possibly have traded down to #8, Williams might/probably would have been off the board, and the BPA could have been an offensive player. In addition, he would have an additional pick or picks for trading down. With Williams being rated so highly, of course he was the BPA at #6, so Mac felt he had to take him. But after trading down and with Williams off the board, Mac could possibly have taken the BPA at that point in the draft, AND addressed a need, or at least done something to help upgrade the offense. That's all I'm saying. I'm NEVER an advocate for "reaching."
Wrong. If he traded back 2 spots Williams AND White would have been gone. The next BPA for offense would have been Todd Gurley.
