While I agree that we have ample frontline talent on paper, injures happen. If decker or Marshall go down...we are in serious trouble. They have to draft a WR in round 2. If a DL or CB go down we have depth (we had depth even before we drafted Williams last night). IMO its drafting depth, not need that makes a team extremely versatile.
Every team is an injury away I think we are fine. If one of Decker or Marshall go down. We still have decent depth for it not to derail us too much, unlike in 2012.
I love this. If the top of our depth chart goes down we are in serious trouble. NO SHIT says virtually every NFL team.
You are aware this is another deep WR draft and we have two picks today right...I wish we could fire fans
Yes and even if we spend one of them on a defensive player if its BPA then so be it. WR and even RB or OL will be there 3rd and 4th. People always act like there's zero talent past round 2 when in reality tons of quality players come out of the later rounds year after year. Round selected is not proportional to quality of player. It's how you play the board.
i agree. if we dont draft gregory, we draft offense. i bet next year its all about offense because we honestly filled up every defensive need for multiple years
The draft is for acquiring talent. Going in with a shopping list is how you end up with Stephen hill and vlad ducasse. Taking the bpa is how you end with a deep roster and cap flexibility. If its a close call between two players of course take a look at the depth chart, but saying "they better take "x" position "regardless of who is available is not a good plan
Dear god, i have not been on this site in months. Now I know why. Still calling Woody cheap after all we have done since Rex left. Still bitching about everything. Yeah, we picked Leonard so we could save money on MO. It why no one picked him before us, woody had a deal with the other teams. Yeap, we don't care about offense at all based on the one round where the best player is awlays defense. I hate talk radio and the print media but I hate Fan forums even more and I used to love both. 90% of you people are complete morons
With all due respect the stupidity of our FO predecessors was just exactly what some of you are clamoring over and over. We need offensive weapons, yada, yada, yada as if we did not know that already. The point is you don't ever, never, pass up on a BPA and reach out for need because you think he can fill the role. Our drafts in the past were to a large extent based on need, and we overreached and over drafted mediocre talent like Sanchez, Hill, Ducasse, Wilson, Gholston and probably even Milliner to name a few just because of need. Need caused us to draft poorly and with blinders on. Need can be addressed many different ways, not just thru the draft but the safest way to draft is when you select the best player available each and every time. As for the constant whining about our lack of offense, I think it boils down to one thing and one thing only...the QB, everything else is mute. I can guarantee you that with our current offensive weapons and an elite QB we would be beyond formidable and yes people would be quivering in their cleats, while Jet fans would find something else to bitch about.
Another DL you are saying if that's who is BPA..uh, no thanks. At some point you have to use your mind when you make decisions.
We are good enough that we can take the best player available. You may not want to hear that, but it's true. We 100% did not need another receiver. What we NEED is a QB, and I'll give you OL but Scherff was off the board. As many have pointed out but many seem to ignore... the problem with the offense is not the WRs, it's not the RB's and it's not the TE's. It's the QB. There was QB worth taking at 6, we didn't need a WR, and we took the best defensive player in the draft. You don't pass on the best defensive player, potentially the best player in general, because you want the sexy pick of Kevin White. That solves as many problems as drafting Leonard Williams, but at least with Williams you get someone compared to all-time greats and his potential emergence gives you leverage when negotiating with someone looking to make, most likely, $10 mil more a year than his replacement.
I'm not saying who is BPA because we don't know yet. Altho the majority of top players left aren't DL, so I can pretty confidently say that's not the case. The BPA currently are LB, OL, WR and possibly RB as well as S.
