I mean our D would enter a potential all world level pending on field results. The defense would be absolutely LUDACRIS. and yeah idc what rex says...he has GOT to be pissed. This is the offseason he's wanted all along.
If we get Gregory and williams in round 1 and 2....and added revis and cro back, WHAT WILL BE GOING THROUGH REX RYANS HEAD?!?!
he'll lose his mind. but forget rex. Our overall ROSTER would easily be better than 2010. This team is getting me really excited.
It would be getting the 2 best defensive players in the draft. Without making a single trade. It would be an incredible coup for the Jets.
Unless they feel this guy is whack beyond reproach, then yes....... the Defense could be straight nasty. Then go Offense the rest of the draft (ideally a trade down in rd 3, grabbing the best available OL & another pick, and somehow sending a 4th to TN for Mettenberger)
How about they trade Wilkerson for Justin Houston. Then draft a wr in the second. Houston had 22 sacks last year.
I'm with you, I'm all for upgrading the O but if we can somehow get Gregory in round 2 (the guy was a top 10 pick until a week ago) you take the gamble. You absolutely have to take chances to be good in this league. If it pans out you are set for the next 5 years with that D and you can spend all 5 of those years focusing on O.
If they had someone other than Charlie Whitehurst to back up MM, I'd say we had a shot. I just think it's way too early for them to deal him. I'd love it. _
How would our first offense offer any competition to our first defense? Offense was suppose to be 70% of offseason commitment. Looks more like 30% now. (not complaining about our first pick, but some urgency needs to appear on offense...It would help the D out a lot). Fitz/Geno QB (lol) OL: Ferguson(game has fallen off)/Dozier-Carpenter(suspect)-Mangold-Colon(suspect)/Aboushi-Giacomini/Dozier Backfield: Ivory-Ridley-Powell (one goes down we are in a lot of trouble here) WR: Marshall-Decker-Kerley ---very suspect after that--- (0ne goes down we are in a lot of trouble here) TE: Amaro, Cumberland We need OL, RB & WR in a bad way.
The reason this premise is flawed is because we all know the Jets MO. It's all about drafting D early in the draft and completely forgoing need, especially when need far outweighs BPA. If anyone here thinks the Jets will just solely focus on upgrading the O over the next 5 drafts and FA then you haven't been following the movements of this FO over the last 5 years. That's naive thinking at best. I'll also go out on a limb and say that even if the Jets draft Gregory tonight, they still will not have the #1 rated D in the league next year. That's a huge indictment on the FO. It sounds like some on this board are more enamored with the thought of having this "ferocious" D than having a team who can get deep in the playoffs. This team as currently constructed wil not make deep playoff runs because they don't have an elite talent at WR or RB. Brandon Marshall has to prove that he can still play at that level so it remains to be seen. I do not agree with overloading the D and completely neglecting the skill positions. It's overkill.
this FO is in its first offseason. What does the last 5 years have to do with literally anything.. BTW, Brandon Marshall might have to prove it to you....but nobody cares bc Brandon Marshall is indeed an elite talent at WR, the likes we haven't seen sine Keyshawn.
We have a ton of depth on defense now though. You don't think Babin or Pace are going to make this football team?
That has nothing to do with it. I think Babin is a cut candidate FWIW. But that doesn't support saying if our starting RBs and WRs get hurt that we are unique in being in trouble in that scenario. Name me 1 team not named the Colts or Packers who wouldn't be in trouble if their #1 WR and #1 RB got hurt? Seattle? Nope SF? Nope Buffalo? Nope Miami? Nope Atlanta? Nope New Orleans? Nope Cowboys? Nope Eagles? Nope Chicago? Nope MINN? Nope Rams? Nope Chargers? Nope Houston? Nope We can even add Denver to this list.
The Jets need another WR and RB and depth at Oline, way more than the luxury of another DE or OLB. The fact is SO glaringly obvious, not even worth arguing. A strong defense profits from a strong running game. counters, traps, PA pass (old Pennington-Martin offense). Turn out the clock, keep the D off the field, keep opposing O off the field.
I have nothing against adding depth. But that is not a reason to pass a clear BPA talent in the draft. If Randy Gregory is there tonight he must be selected. If not, a WR or OL become a need as well as BPA.
