I read in my local paper today that Cam Newton is disgruntled in Carolina and didn't sign a contract extension because of the beating he took last year. Carolina failed to add a LT in the first round tonight and their FA signing at LT (Michael Oher) probably isn't gonna get it done this season. They didn't even add another WR for him, instead reaching for an undersized LB, who possibly should be a S. If Cam takes another beating in Carolina this year, that could be it for him with the Panthers. Could the Jets be so lucky as to be able to sign Cam Newton as FA in a year or two?
Would be amazing but can't see Carolina just letting go as a free agent Cam is underrated and Carolina had an horrendous O line with one good WR target (rookie)
Who knows? Eli Manning could also become a free agent next year. I know you wanted the Duck but we will find our QB one way or another. For all we know Zach Mettenberger could be a Jet before training camp is over, The ball takes a lot of funny bounces in the NFL.
I wouldn't mind Mettenberger at all, but I wouldn't give up more than a 4th for him as he's shown promise but he's also been injured and well... you know. I really wanted Mettenberger last year in the draft.
I agree we take Mettenberger for a 4th if we get the chance to do that. He may be the only chance left this year for a QB that may actually be any good at all. However you know we are going to draft one today or tomorrow anyway, that's almost a given.
How would you guys feel about some trade involving Mo to the Panthers for Cam? Obviously there would be other picks, players, etc. involved but that would certainly be intriguing.
I'd love to add Cam but that's as big a dream as trading for Rivers. One thing that is certain, we've got ammunition with Mo being a good bargaining chip in any trade possibility.
I would love to have him but I think he will be too expensive and Carolina will franchise him if he threatens to leave.. Btw can't believe they reached for Shaq... Wow!
I'm not so sure if what was in that article is true. It sounds like Cam is very unhappy with the FO/Gettleman in Carolina and is definitely thinking about leaving. He may refuse to accept the Franchise Tag. Think Carolina will just let him sit and not play and not get any compensation for him and not have a QB? Unless Carolina gets VERY lucky and finds lightning in a bottle with Oher, Cam will be running for his life and taking another beating this year. That won't make him any happier in Carolina. IF the Jets have found Brick's replacement OTOH, he could welcome the opportunity to play in the limelight of NYC. We'd better find that LT ourselves and add another WR, however.
He can refuse to sign. They can't let him sit, have no QB and no compensation. They'd be forced to trade him or let him walk as a FA and get only a 3rd round pick compensation.
I am not investing major $$$ on Cam until he's shown improvement in his passing mechanics. They are downright awful
He won't refuse to sign. Highly doubt that anyways... I'm wondering if their target was Lael Collins the tackle from lsu and because of his BS that he's going through they panic and took Shaq on a huge reach... I had Shaq as a 3rd rd prospect..
This seems like the only way it could get done.. However very unlikely because they don't have a QB...
On a related note, did anyone else find it incredibly awkward that they brought "man of the year" Thomas Davis on the stage to announce his replacement?
