Why not Collins? he could play G yr 1 then become LT if Brick continues to suck the next season.

True......Williams won't be there. I know you like Mariota but he won't be there either. At this point it's between a WR and a OLB at the #6 spot........if Mariota somehow slips to #6 he will be the pick.

You're probably right that neither Williams nor Mariota will be there at #6, but I hope you're right about Williams and wrong about Mariota. ;) I agree that we're probably looking at a WR or OLB Fowler, Cooper or White. I'll be happy with any of those three or a trade down and take an LT.

I was taught a bird I the hand beats two in the Bush. We know what Mo brings to the table. Trading him for A talented college player is a crap shoot...an unnecessary gamble.

$14 mil is a lot of money out of the cap each year.

Besides, Williams could take over for Snacks or even Marshall.

Injuries happen, it is almost impossible to predict what you will need by the time a draft pick has had a couple years to develop.

If Williams is the best available player you take him and do not look back.

Taking Collins at #6 would be a reach, possibly a pretty big one. Not a good idea. As important as finding Brick's replacement is, reaching isn't the way to get one.

Why do you think it wouldn't be a good idea to trade down for him? Afraid he'd get taken before we could get him at the lower pick? Perhaps, but there are no guarantees. When you look to trade down, it shouldn't be for just one player. There should be alternate plans.

Collins right now is regarded as a top 2 OL prospect. Trading down is very risky IMO, you got the Giants @ 9, Rams @ 10. I know those teams need some offensive line help. If you believe Collins slides past those 2 teams, then take the risk of the trade down.

There should absolutely be alternative plans I absolutely agree, so if you want to trade down by all means I wouldn't mind it at all, but if they REALLY love Collins I would just take him at 6 and be done with it.

I don't think Collins is much of a reach. Jets sorely need offensive line help and to me, I think it's the biggest issue because it doesn't matter who is under center when Suh is destroying the Gs and Ts with ease - destroying the confidence in the QB.

    Talent meets need here.

I hear what you're saying. They may only be able to trade down a spot or two if they want Collins. If they stay put and take him at #6 however, they'd better be prepared for a shit storm of negative feedback from the fans and media claiming they reached. They'd better be damned sure that he will be at least a top echelon LT for the next 10-12 years if not a perennial All-Pro.

EDIT - I just looked at the CBS Draft Scout overall prospect rankings for the first time in several weeks and didn't realize that Collins had risen to the #10 spot and Beasley the #6. If the Jets board lines up that way, you may be right that it would make sense to just stay put and take Collins if they really like him. I'd bet that they'd take Beasley, however.

If you trade Mo and draft Williams you're getting rid of an expensive veteran contract for a cheaper rookie deal. And that's the way the NFL works. And then when Williams is due to get paid you deal him, too. In other words you get the best years out of a player and then let them go and have another team pay them for the great 4 plus years they had with you.

IMO that's a horrible way to run a franchise. You're showing the players absolutely no loyalty and you're continually disrupting continuity and chemistry. That doesn't even take into consideration the fans, either. Why would any player want to play for the Jets in a scenario like that? If I were a player and were drafted by a team like that, I'd tell them trade me because I'd never sign with them. We complain now about some players being so mercenary and greedy like Revis. If every team in the NFL ran their team the way you advocate, the league would be full of nothing but Revis types, and I believe there'd be a lot fewer people watching games and following teams.

The best way is to keep the players you draft for their entire careers, or for at least 90-95% of their careers. That creates the most stability and the greatest sense of "team" and unity.

If the Jets pulled this off and got great compensation people would take notice of them. Belichick who runs his franchise on this exact same principle might even think something like this: "Hey, maybe we'd better look out for those guys. Maybe for once somebody over there knows what they're doing."

he can play nose tackle. He can play any position on the DL. I would try to trade Wilkerson. If we cant, it's okay we're going to have one hell of a Dline rotation this season.

You can ALWAYS use another pass rusher. this is the best pick the Jets have made in years
