this is so spot on and exactly how i felt reading the responses.

i we WERE to trade Mo, getting the #2 pick would be outstanding value for him. i doubt we would be able to do that well if we actually do trade him. And if we do trade him, its likely not because we want to, but because money/contract/hold out type stuff forces our hand. being able to get leonard williams in that scenario would be a godsend.

I agree that the best scenario where we DONT take mariotta is for a team ahead of us too. then we dont have to live with the "what if" of passing on him and can go and get a player that can impact us elsewhere....

but if the jets take a RB at #6 there are going to be baltimore level riots in my neighborhood.

Wilkerson is going to demand a huge contract, and may hold out to get it. we wont have 55 million in cap room last year like this year. there are going to be tough decisions that need to be made in the near future.

i dont think it is all that idiotic. he would get to play for his former coach in a system he is farmiliar with. why wouldnt those benefit him?

Mo Wilk, #6 pick, 2nd round pick to the Titans for the 2nd overall pick for Marcus Mariota

I would like to think at this point the Jets know what they are willing to pay Wilkerson. If Wilkerson is demanding more than that, I have no problem if they try to move him.

All the ESPN talking heads seem to think that giving up Mo for the 2nd pick is ludicrous, but I would much prefer to get something for him if they're just going to lose him.

Trade him to Tennessee, and then pick up Mariota and Cooper. Thats how I would do it in Madden, lol.

EVERYONE tries to keep their cornerstone pieces in their prime. great teams, horrible teams. that always what you want to do.

it isnt always that simple. the jets have a ton invested in CB/DL. if wilkerson hold sout for suh/watt type money our hand is forced. we give that to him then sheldon needs to get that kind of money a year or two later when he is up.

every team would just write the checks if it was that simple. it isnt. you dont get 50m to spend every offseason.

Titans would NEVER take Mo Wilk for the 2nd pick alone. Jets would have to offer more if they wanted the 2nd pick, probably a lot more

They will never trade that pick without a first rounder in 2016 no matter what else is included.

The Wilkerson trade talks DISGUST me. It's embarrassing for a franchise to NOT reward a player who has actually done it right ever since he was drafted in 2011, despite being on a franchise that couldn't have been more messed up. Now they shell out money to Revis, Cromartie, Marshall, Gilcrest, etc, and WON'T give Mo an extension? Just not the way to run a team. Honestly, just terrible.

You do what's best for the team. No one is asking him to take a hometown discount. You don't "reward" a player for that. You give him fair value. If he wants to be rewarded, then he would go to the highest bidder next year. If he wants to stay a Jet, then he's gotta play ball. If not, get what you can for him. The truth is, no one knows what he's asking, but if he were asking for a fair price, he would have already signed an extension. At the very least, the Jets are entertaining offers for him because they can't agree on a contract. If we don't trade him and then sign him to a ridiculous deal or don't sign him, then yes, not trading him when you had the chance is how you screw up a franchise.

Lol the Jets already said they have no interest in trading him. Stop buying all the trade talk from a bunch on know nothing's on the internet, the Jets will resign him

The Jets have said a lot of things. Most of it probably hasn't been true. He hasn't been resigned yet, and there's a reason for that. Could be nothing. Could be something. I wouldn't write it off just because they said something to the media.

In principal, I agree with you. However, if the Jets were to move Wilkerson towards the purpose of landing a franchise QB, it's really hard to question. Really then it comes down to whether or not they get it right with the QB. If they do, then the team will be better for it. If they don't, it'll set the franchise back horribly.

That's true, if the goal is to get a package good enough to move up for Mariota, but it seems more about not wanting to pay Wilkerson. If a deal goes down sending Wilkerson and #6 to the Titans for #2 and Mariota and he turns out to be a good QB, no one would question the move. If he sucks, and Wilkerson wreaks havoc in Tennessee for the next 5+ years, well we know................

Are you kidding me? Trade one of the premier DL in the league in his prime for a MAYBE QB who hasn't taken a snap under center in college? UGHHH.

There are consequences to giving wilkerson JJ Watt/Suh type money.

what would you rather do, give Mo that kind of cash and then say goodbye to 2-3 other starters, AND then have to give sheldon the same or watch him walk.

    OR

trade wilkerson for #2, draft Leonard williams, and pay him on the rookie scale for 4 years

it isnt as simple as just pay him and thats that. no one WANTS to see mo leave. but if he has to go, getting the #2 pick for him would be elite value

That is not happening. Wilkerson straight up for the #2 pick? The Titans have way too many offers for that pick to accept that offer. And if the Jets traded Wilkerson and their #6 pick to move up to #2 and then draft Williams? I'd lose my mind. Haha.
