I understand the thinking but disagree. IMO it will be easier to get 90% of what beasley gives with eli harold or odigizuwa(spell check) than 90% of what cooper gives with strong or devin smith( i think dorsett goes in the first) Id take cooper and white over beasley in a heartbeat. I flat out dont think beasley is one of the top 6 players in this drafy
Nah man, I disagree. There's a big drop off in WRs after the 1st round guys (assuming players like Green-Beckham, Perriman, and Dorsett and Strong will be gone by our 2nd pick and they will) 2 things always happen: 1) Offensive Lineman get drafted earlier than expected 2) Wide Receivers get drafted earlier than expected. every year there is a run on those positions in the 17-37 range. I will be really, really surprised if Dorsett is there at 37 and if the Jets are planning on that then its a strong possibility they going to swing and miss on the WR position in the draft for the 382039848th year in a row. The gap between the receiver they can get at the @37 and Cooper is far larger IMO than the gap between any pass rusher they can take at 6 and 37. Lots of guys will be available at 37 as edge rushers and I wouldn't be surprised if one of the following (Ray, Gregory, Beasley, Dupree) drops down to the late, late 1st causing ripple down the line to 37. Even if one of those guys doesn't fall hard: Cooper (6) & Eli Harold (37) is a lot better than Beasley (6) & Sammie Coates /Rashad Greene (37) which may be all that's available at WR at that pick.
after their rookie years Beckham Jr. looks like the better player but all those other receivers you mention played with terrible QBs. I think they all have bright futures I don't think anyone was calling Marquise Lee better than Beckham Jr. either, they were all drafted about where people thought they would, Lee might've fell a little I guess
I also don't think choosing a first round player because of what people believe will be available in the second is good business. You take the best player available at that point in time, and deal with the next round when it comes. I'd say picking for need is even a better strategy than trying to put together a perfect round by round positional construct.
...and that's why there's almost no chance he's still on the board at #6. The Raiders or Skins will take him, maybe even the Jags. The real question is, do we take a pass rusher or Kevin White. I have a hunch White will be the pick, no logical reason why but I can picture him on the Jets. Or maybe even Gurley. I would have said Ray until the injury news. 3 days away, can't wait!
I think the discussion should be White or Beasley. I don't think Cooper makes it past 4 so it's not so much Cooper > Beasley but is White> Beasley/other OLB (Dupree), my strategy would be barring no trade down, take White at 6 AND then Harold at 37 or other best available pass rusher.
This has a lot of wrong in it. There is a very big debate on who the best player is. The talent surrounding White wasn't even in the same universe as what was around Cooper. Everyone knew who Kevin White was before the draft as he was slotted as the #2 WR pre-combine the debate that he was actually better came after the combine and after everyone studied the tape. People knew who he was lol. The TCU game (in attendance) was the worst play calling I've ever seen in my entire life. Kevin White did not disappear Dana Holgerson was dealt with such bad QB play he did not call 1 pass play the 4th and gave the game away. What other game did he disappear in? It's easy to check the box score but that doesn't tell the whole story. I watched every game and he was often times the only guy who showed up. In addition to not having a chance to make plays he was dealing with a ankle issue the 2nd half of the season which included this game. However, the next week he still pulled in 16 catches. As for the school producing bad prospects I'd think as jets fans we would realize even without watching a game what Austin and Bailey dealt with playing for Schotty. I felt sorry for them and I'm excited to see them play with a different OC this year and a much better QB than Austin Davis. Now I understand you saying Cooper is better because I still have no clue who I like better, I'm fine with either one but there is no way Cooper is in a class of his own. White and Cooper are easily tier A with Parker, Perriman, DGB in tier 2.
I think the jury is still out on Lee, he had a rough rookie year, he came on strong at the end though. Mike Evans was the most dominate receiver in the draft, and as we predicted he was amazing his rookie yr. ODB, was my boom or bust prospect. I was shocked he came onto the scene like he did. I wasn't a HUGE fan of Watkins to be honest. It's tough to tell, I agree - all we can go off is the tape, and no receiver has done more then Cooper. Highest floor, top 3 highest ceiling. That makes him the best WR in the draft IMO.
There was no other good receiver on Alabama cept for Cooper. He made that offense go and made that crappy QB, look great at times. I believe the talent on Alabama wasn't as good as the previous years, not even close on both sides of the ball. The TCU game, TCU is a very good defense, but I think Clint Trickett did a lot of good for Kevin White that season. It seemed to me when he struggled so did Kevin White. He doesn't seem to be a receiver that will make the QB better. Cooper had his fair share of injuries also. Cooper is in a class of his own because he was able to produce no matter the circumstances, not once. Kevin White is a good prospect, but Cooper brings so much more to the table. Not saying Kevin White sucks, but I think he's in that tier with D. Parker.
Trust me this 145 pound QB did not do anything to enhance White's draft stock. Our QB play destroyed us so badly we went full quarters without throwing a pass. Trickett started well but went back to being horrible pretty quickly. Everything at Alabama was better the pass protection, the bad QB play, and the limited options (Bama 5 star players) surrounding each of them. Again I'm not arguing that he's better than Cooper but there is no question about it he's in a different class than everyone else along with Cooper. I'll be fine with either one but I do not want a guy like Parker or Perriman in the 1st round. Edit --- I don't want a guy like Parker or Perriman in the top 10^ or with us trading down. Wasn't knocking either one, they are both 1st round prospects.
Just as you understand that's your opinion. Folks can and have debated White as the better prospect. Just like with MM, some are going to look at who projects to be a better pro. Is Cooper more polished? Absolutely but that doesn't mean that White or Parker won't be better pros. _
As is yours. I have not seen one good point in favor of Kevin White over Cooper besides potential. The tape tells me who the best is.
Coop Coop Coop. Production in the SEC, surest hands in the draft and a much higher "floor" than any of the other wideouts. Beasley actually scares me a bit
How can you not be a big time supporter? I love the kid's approach to the game, he's a technician that will master his craft. Yes, Cooper is that good.
Whoa whoa whoa I actually am a supporter. Great approach and he'll master his craft. Great great player. I was a huge McCarron fan so I've been watching Cooper for years. Doesn't mean White won't be a better pro. He's bigger, faster, stronger, more explosive, great body control and wins every jump ball. White can polish his route running. Cooper isn't going to get bigger or faster. Will his route running get him the same separation in the pros that he got in college? Like I said, we'll have to see. Not sure the books are written on either of these guys. _
In the words of Lee Corso "not so fast!" Cooper/White/Parker EDIT: I think Eisen said Parker was leading the pack but it was actually Cooper by a nose over White w/ Parker picking up the rear. I believe Cooper's original 40 time at the Combine was later amended.
