Hello everyone. The draft is quickly approaching so its time for me to do one more mock draft. Just to give some context, I don't expect any of the top 2 QBs to slide to 6 where the Jets are currently slated to pick. It should be stated though that if Mariota falls to pick 3 (jagaurs pick) I expect the Jets to be potential suitors to trade up. In this mock though I don't predict trades as they are usually a crapshoot. Anyways, here is my mock. ROUND 1: KEVIN WHITE, WR WVU In my last mock draft I had the Jets taking Amari Cooper at 6. It's starting to seem more and more likely that the Raiders select him at 4. The only way I could see Cooper falling to 6 is if Leonard Williams is on the board for the Raiders as that leaves them with a difficult decision. Anyways, after watching every single Maccagnan press conference out there, it seems apparent that he puts a huge emphasis of taking BPA and if White is there at 6 I don't see how he isn't the top player left on their board. In my opinion, he has the best hands in the entire draft. He has the elite skill of high pointing the ball and being able to come down with those 50/50 balls more often than not. He plays angry and honestly believes that every ball is rightfully his. Him running a 4.35 40 puts him in an elite class of athlete and he also possesses top notch game strength. I also think his floor is higher than people seem to think. He's not a bad route runner and it's not like he is just beating his man with pure athleticism. I also don't worry about him playing with Marshall and Decker. Marshall has had success playing in the slot and I also think you can play White there as well. He has the quickness and elusiveness to be effective there. Overall I think White has the potential to be a STAR and it would be DIFFICULT for Geno to not be adequate with this set of weapons. The pick also gives us flexibility in terms of Marshall and his contract. Normally I wouldn't do this, but I just wanted to state that I also strongly considered Gregory at this pick. I think he is leaps and bounds the best edge rusher in this draft class and would make this defense truly elite. I am not scared off by his failed drug test (although it is a tad concerning), but I see White as the better value at this pick. ROUND 2: TEVIN COLEMAN, RB INDIANA Here is the runningback that everyone has been demanding we have on the roster. I believe he would be a perfect fit for Gailey's spread offense as he possesses above average speed (4.39 40) and has more than capable hands. He runs through tackles effectively for his size and is an excellent one-cut player coming out of the backfield. Once he makes it to the second level, good luck trying to catch him. He also has the potential to take any screen to the house. Obviously with Coleman being a smaller back results in some concerns. He's not really going to break many tackles and is sometimes brought down behind the LOS. Still, I think he has the potential to be a real intriguing piece in this spread offense as a speed back and he would fit perfectly with Ivory and Ridley. ROUND 3: PAUL DAWSON, LB, TCU I'm not afraid of Paul Dawson's combine performance. I will be honest here, it was pretty piss poor. He has character concerns as he doesn't watch film religiously and supposedly wasn't beloved in the TCU locker room. With all this being said, he is still a fantastic football player. Obviously we have no idea how Todd Bowles will be as a Head Coach in this league, but from everything I have read about him it seems as if he is a true leader of men and truly gains the respect of his players. This makes me feel more confident in this pick. Dowson possesses elite level instincts as he almost instantaneously dissects plays and puts himself into a position to succeed. He plays well in man-coverage (something we clearly need support in) and isn't easily engulfed by blockers. He plays sideline to sideline and seems to always be making plays. An interesting stat I got from NFL.com is that he only allowed 35.7 percent of the passes that were directed his way to be completed, which is fantastic. This guy has the potential to be great if he can keep his head screwed on straight and honestly I am willing to take that risk. I'm convinced that we now have a strong locker room and he could flourish here. ROUND 4: GARRETT GRAYSON, QB CSU I know everyone wants us to draft a quarterback so here it is. I expect Grayson to be available in the 4th round, but it wouldn't surprise me if he was selected higher. He just doesn't have the athleticism that people have come to expect with the position which hurts his overall ranking. Even with this being said, I see positives in his game. He has experience taking snaps under center, which I definitely appreciate. I've seen times where he has gone through progressions efficiently and it seems like he has good field vision. His deep accuracy is fine and I really like the touch on some of his throws. He has the potential to be a quality starter down the line. There are obviously still some negatives though. I'm not particularly thrilled with his game clock as sometimes I see him not realize the pass rush will get to him soon. He also has the tendency to stare down #1 receivers, which is bad. Also, as stated before he doesn't possess elite athleticism, but till has the talent to escape pressure. If coached correctly, I think he could become something down the road. He also seems like a high character guy. ROUND 7: ANTOINE EVERTT, OG McNEESE STATE I believe it is important for us to shore up our offensive line depth. I seem to think that its easier to find quality interior offensive linemen later in the draft and I think Evertt has the potential to be a quality starter down the road. I'm not thrilled with how our interior offensive line is set up currently (with the exception of Mangold) and it would be nice to stash Evertt and see how he improves as a player. Although he wasn't playing against elite competition, he still has traits you look for. He does well in pass protection and can block well up front. He doesn't possess great agility as you'll rarely see him do anything effectively when he gets to the second level. This is a depth pick as most 7th round picks are ROUND 7: JORDAN RICHARDS, S STANFORD Todd Bowles rolls with the most defensive backs in football so it's crucial to have depth back there. Obviously we've shored up our secondary, but it's still important to add players to that depth in case one doesn't pan out or someone gets hurt. I personally like what Richards brings to the table. He plays the run well and seems to be a fluid athlete. He can play the ball and that's definitely important. His biggest knock is that he isn't a great athlete so superior athletes could really take advantage of that. Still, he is a fierce competitor and a hard worker. Obviously depth pick I hope you guys enjoyed my mock and may God bless the Jets with a good draft this time around
I'd sign up for that, but I doubt Grayson makes it to Day 3. But, of course, who knows? Ryan Nassib was getting mid/high 1st round rumors and ended up in the 4th. One nitpick is I'd prefer an OT prospect rather than an OG
White may be a possibility, I'm still hoping for Cooper, but it doesn't look good. I rather not draft a RB in Rd 2, I think a few players like D. Johnson, Tj Yeldon & Cobb will be available in Rd 3. I think Grayson will be gone in Rd 2. Dawson is a hellva football player, I could care less about measurables, he gets it done....luv that Guy. I like all your players, just not sure they will be drafted in the rounds you suggested. Nice Mock!!
If Dawson is there in round three sign me up. Otherwise I think there will be better players available at the other spots.
I have a gut feeling that the FO is higher on Devante Parker than White but could see either one being drafted at 6. Tbh I wouldn't have any problems with either one of them at that spot
What has led you to believe Parker is headed to the Jets? Sure we did our due diligence but he's not a candidate unless we trade down. Taking him over Cooper and/or White would be a crime. Not to mention Beasley and whoever else would be available. I would be shocked to see Parker in the top 10.
i wouldn't be that surprised to see Parker at 10 for the Rams. he's really not that far behind the top 2 guys
Nice Mock. Well done I like the idea of play making talent at the top and like that RB. I think we'll get White, or will trade, at 6
Overall a good job. Love the White pick. Coleman is a great prospect, but are his legs gonna be tired after all the carries and yards last year? How many did he have over his career at IU? If not too many, he could definitely add a lot to the team. I agree that Dawson seems to have great instincts, but does he have the speed and athleticism to succeed in the NFL? Desire alone won't cut it, neither will just instincts. David Harris has great instincts but not the speed to go with those instincts. I'm not interested in another David Harris. We need speed at the ILB position imo. I don't think I'd take Dawson. I'm not that high on Grayson, but can understand your reasons for taking him.
Love all of the picks cept for Grayson. I don't get the love for this guy as of late. I mean of course the Jets need a QB, but why this guy? No point in taking a flyer on a QB that will be a backup at best. The talk of taking a QB just to take one is pretty stupid in my opinion. Especially, if that QB is nothing special to begin with.
+1000 He's not very big and doesn't have an NFL arm and I don't see him as anything more than a backup. We're not "developing" him into a starter. _
Taking a RB is almost foolish. There is much better value at other positions in round 2. If we really believe RB to be an area of need there will be plenty options available in round 3. I'm not a fan of Dawson at all. He's way undersized and will definitely get swallowed up by NFL linemen. While he may play faster than his 4.9 combine speed, I just can't see him being a solid player in the 3-4.
Right!! It's so dumb. Seen so many people knock another's mock draft for not having a QB as if it's a lock to happen. Mac and Bowles could hold a press conference today announcing they will draft a QB with every pick and it still wouldn't guarantee anything. Take away the 2 7th's and we have 4 picks to improve our roster. This QB class is far too weak after the top 2 to waste a pick when someone else can make an impact.
Yeah, I saw your mock and you didn't draft a QB - I had no issues w/ your mock. If I decide to do one final 1 prior to the draft, I wouldn't include a QB either. we need play-makers on both ends of the ball. I don't believe in taking 1 just to take one.
I don't have anything specific I can quote or post but I try to read almost everything Jets-related out there and it seemed to stick with me when I heard that the FO was intrigued by him. Like I said it's just a gut feeling. As for the trade down I think there's more than a few draft boards around the league on which he's slotted as WR #2. Seems to be more polished and he has the longest length of the 3. Having your body control likened to AJ Green is one of the biggest compliments. I think the pick might be a little surprising at 6 but I don't think too many will be calling it a reach because he has the talent and the production to justify it
I have to be honest I haven't seen one set of rankings with him in the top 2 and a lot have Perriman slotted ahead of him now also. Regardless he is still very good, he is a top 15-20 player but IMO the difference between the top 6 overall prospects and the rest of the first is pretty substantial this year. I'd expect Perriman and Parker both to around the 10-14 range. Rams, Vikings, Dolphins.
And I agree dont take Grayson or Carden just for the sake of taking a QB like Tajh Boyd in the 6th last year...what a waste
a RB in 2nd is tricky considering we have Ivory/Ridley/ Powell. I'd rather use it towards a game changer to help us now in either and OL or WR or OLB guy, whichever we didn't get in round 1. I almost feel like this year is a tryout for all 3 RBs. All free agents next year, I feel as if, which ever is best will get re signed for more years so I think a guy to compliment them would be best. A Ajayi/Duke Johnson/Abdullah in 3rd would be complimentary backs now and better value I think. Plus, I wonder why Ridley/Powell signed here and came back: already with Ivory, they must have been promised a chance or felt like they were wanted by team management and given an opportunity to play. Signing them, then using a high 2nd to draft a RB seems counter productive.
