The problem Lam Jones had was what the Jets gave up to draft him - two first round picks to move up. We can fault the trade made to move up to draft him that high, but his career as a first round pick wasn't nearly as bad as others this franchise has made.

I think Brady was the better blocker. No?

Can you imagine - we had 4 first round picks that year. Four! I wonder if another team has had that many in any draft since. Becht was the only bummer of the four - Ellis, Abraham, and Pennington were the others. To me, that doesn't seem all that long ago, but by comparison if the Jets had 4 first round picks in today's over-hyped, over-analyzed, over-tweeted, over-covered, over-televised world, most of our heads would explode leading up to draft day.

No way was Brady a better blocker than Becht, Becht was like having an extra OT on the field

Hey he blocked a punt in the AFC Championship game so he did have that gong for him.

Parcells didn't draft Lageman.... that was before Parcells got here.

Like I said the biggest Parcells draft blunder was 1997, I understand you don't want the Manning family to hold you hostage and fuck them for even trying to pull that shit especially after Peyton "raped" that girl at Tennessee but he could have taken Orlando Pace at #1. Everyone knew Pace was a franchise LT. I just can't wrap my head around the idea that there possibly could have been a series of events that unfolded had Parcells told Manning that "yes you are my guy" and we end up taking Manning and that might have been enough for Bellicheat to stick around New York. It was a different time, no reason Manning couldn't have sat on the bench for a year and learned and in 1998 he's the guy. Maybe 98 isn't our year but maybe we get 99, 2000, and then Bellicheat from 01-now.

I'll say this, Parcells is the 2nd best coach this franchise has ever had and the staff he assembled while he was here was the best staff in franchise history but when it came to GM he was bad. The poor drafts, the cap nightmare and the way he handled giving the reigns to Bellicheat were just terrible.

Sorry, my bad. I guess I remembered wrong. I thought Lageman was another one of Parcells' trade down specials.

And there will be fans today who don't remember that.

Had he just assured Archie, we are the creme de la creme of the AFC for a decade plus and win multiple Super Bowls.

Jeff Lageman was drafted long before Parcells got here.

Lageman was a reach but nowhere near a bust.

Lageman was taken fourth overall as a linebacker.

Once he switched to defensive end he was our leading pass rusher.

Not our best pick but hardly a bust.

Yeah, I know he wasn't a bust. I just remembered him as being a player taken after trading down. Obviously, my memory is faulty. I just looked it up, and actually, he was the 14th pick in 1989, not the 4th. That is so long ago, even looking at the players taken in that draft, I can't remember who I wanted the Jets to take. I remember that I wasn't happy with the Lageman pick, however.

Lageman was a very good player for us, but when we drafted him Mel Kiper was totally dumbfounded and that was at the time Kiper, and draftniks, were getting popular so it kind of made us look bad and gave Lagerman a difficult role to live up to. In fact, Kiper's quote "I don't think the New York Jets really know what the draft is all about" comes to mind.

I mean, becht blocked like an absolute tank. When thye used to sweep outside, Becht almost NEVER missed that lead block.

Unfortunately, he almost never caught a friggin ball!

well if there are no positives about the NYJs since U have been a fan why throw mud at me? I can tender U lots & lots of positives about the NYJs that occurred before U were a fan. The problem on your side is U became a fan to late & since U have been a fan the NYJs have been stinko & if U need proof of that just look at Woody's record as owner 0-15 which is a UNDENIALABLE FACT. My suggestion to U is to begin dealing in the real facts of the NYJs that have occurred not the BS is which is your normal way of looking at the NYJs since the 1969 season ended & U to will have nothing nice to say about them either.
