I'm glad to see he seems more inclined to trade down than anything else. "Since this is my first time as a general manager, I don't really have a track record yet. I think philosophically I like the idea of personally getting more picks because to me, more picks are more opportunities to find players. ... It's almost like a portfolio. Do you pick one stock you think is going to get the big return, or do you pick three stocks that may not hit the same ceiling but the overall value of it actually gets a higher yield. Philosophically I'm not opposed to moving up in the draft to go get a player if you feel he is going to be an extremely good player, but I would personally like to get more picks. It's to me just more opportunities to acquire more talent."
So we are calling him Magic Mike already? Can we wait until after the draft before we do this?.Any dickhead with half a brain and cap space can sign players in free agency with the exception of John Idzik. This weeks draft will impact this franchise for years to come hopefully he hits it over the fence but as of today there's nothing Magic about Mike
Let's go one further and just not call him Magic mike ever because all that brings to mind is his fat cowboy hat wearing mug in assless leather chaps
Hopefully the sexual deviancy is gone for good and shuffled off to Buffalo.... I don't think I could ever conjure up that image of Maccagnan ....Rex maybe I like Mac The Knife anyway....
Its just annoying to me because Jets fans are always so quick to hoist someone over the heads and start cheering prematurely only to see it become a disaster. Can we let some one earn there reputation around here for once instead of creating fanboy banter
Two things I really liked hearing. 1) More picks the better, not adverse to moving up if the price is right but generally prefers to move down. That part sounds a lot like Bill B. 2) Best Player available. His talking about need not factoring in till late in the process and being used primarily as a tie breaker between equally graded players. Love those points.
I think you're reading way too far into the nickname. Wayyyy too far into it. Other than that, I kind of agree that we shouldn't be anointing this guy anything (Even though no one is). He spent a shit load of money that someone else saved for him, so three years down the line if we still aren't sniffing a ring it will have been a massive failure. I personally think we are only a piece or two away from that, but one of those pieces is probably impossible to find. To get it back on topic… I am encouraged by what he says. Just hearing his theories on how to build the team is refreshing. Whether or not they are executed properly, time will tell.
Didn't Idzik preach something similar when he first started? You know -- more picks, building through the draft. I think Mike is MILES better than JI, but at this point there is no evidence. So.... Show me!!
I can't believe anything a guy says pre-draft cause you never want to tip your hand and let other GMs know your intentions , but if this is the way Mac approaches his first draft I have no complaints. If the guy that you are targeting at 6 isn't there then trade back for more picks. I would have zero problems with that. Beats trading up for a player and having to depend on that guy to cement your legacy.
Your coming off like a superstitious type of fellow. Sure he hasn't earned his merit yet, most would agree witht that sentiment, but to dismiss what he has done thus far is extremely niave. The guy deserves some credit so far for seemingly making the right moves so far to give us the best chance to win now. If any ass hat could do that, Idzik would've done it last off season. Being a GM is a lot more complex than you are giving it credit for.
No evidence? The guy has already committed to signing more quality to this roster than Idzik ever did. He also managed to do so while being a team player, relying on his cap experts, who have established really amazing contracts to all of these guys so that it will not hinder our future. Idzik was someone who preached about the Jets being a "team" from top to bottom but really it was only ever his way or the highway
The Marshall trade and depth signings he made this offseason has already proven him better than Idzik.
I'm sure we're not moving up because the Chipster will do his magic and take MM at #2. So BPA or move back will probably be what transpires next Thursday. It's what he does in the later rounds that will define him. Let the Eagles sell the farm this year...
