My worst case scenario: News comes out on Jameis the night before the draft that POTENTIALLY takes him off the field. I'm talking a video tape or something that links him to something illegal and potential significant jail time (cell phone video of a drunk Winston laughing about the rape and basically admitting it, maybe?). It's not a lock or anything that he'll be convicted, but it makes everyone take a step back...including the Bucs and Titans. Jameis falls to the Jets, but now they have to decide whether or not to take the chance on the talent and risk not only his personality being a major developmental problem, but also the real chance that in a few months he's getting locked up for a multiple years.
Well if I'm me then not a single person on this planet should care about what my big board for this draft is. That's why I prefaced it with "if I'm Mac".
Take White or Beasley or trade back and take BPA wherever we land - the value in this draft seems to be in its depth - there don't seem to be really any "elite" prospects.
I think this would be great. Teams will definitely be calling the Jets to trade up for Williams. Move back several spots and draft Gurley.
If the board falls like that, i don't see any team wanting to come trade up. We would havw to choose between Beasley and white. Either way would be ok with me.
I don't really see a worst case scenario to be honest. If the draft goes: 1. Winston 2. Mariota 3. Fowler 4. Cooper 5. Beasley We're left with White and Williams. If we had to make the pick, I think we'd probably go White just because we already have Mo and Sheldon occupying the spots where Williams would play. However, if Williams is on the board at 6, we'd get some nice offers to trade down.
In that scenario, I trade down if possible, either both of the Browns #1s, or a team whose willing to give up next year's 1 that we think will suck and land a high pick in next year's draft. If no trade possibilities exist and we absolutely have to pull the trigger on someone I'd go with Kevin White. I'd also give consideration to Andrus Peat and Todd Gurley.
I meant no offense. I understand why your board is the way it is. I was just sharing my opinion, not knocking yours.
In a "worse case scenario" trading down is unlikely available. Regardless it wouldn't be great because we would have limited options.
If I can't trade down I draft Williams and try to move he or Mo at some point later on. The value is just to good to pass on.
None taken. I understand why you like Mariota over Winston. He's probably a better fit for what we're planning to do anyway. Not only in regard to the spread offense, but I also think his personality fits really well with Bowles'. Successful teams usually have QBs and coaches with the same attitude. Think Roethlisberger/Tomlin or Manning/Coughlin.
