I'm not going to put in any trades, difficult to predict. 1st 3 players drafted by the Jets had visits. 1) Tampa Bay - Jameis Winston 2) Tenn/ or another team - Marcus Mariota 3) Jacksonvville - Dante Fowler 4) Oakland - Leonard Williams 5) Washington - Vic Beasley NEW YORK JETS Rd 1) AMARI COOPER - WR - ALABAMA - Jets take the BPA and Cooper can immediately make a significant contribution to the offense. Even with the addition of Marshall the Jets take the right player. Rd 2) GARRETT GRAYSON - QB - COLORADO STATE - Jets miss out on Mariota and take the 3rd best QB on their board. Some may feel this early for GG, his stock is on the rise and he shouldn't get out of mid Rd 2. Jets had GG in for a recent visit and a lot of teams like his potential. I could be very wrong, but I have a belief the Jets really like him. Rd 3) NATE ORCHARD - DE/OLB - UTAH - Good pass rusher and disruptive player. Not as athletic as a few top rushers, but productive. Combine #s hurt his stock , but some of the best pass rushers didn't have the best #s. Rd 4) MIKE DAVIS - RB - SOUTH CAROLINA - Good receiver and powerful runner. Rd 7) DARRIAN MILLER - OT - KENTUCKY - Solid depth and potential starter down the road. Rd 7) ISAIAH JOHNSON -S- GEORGIA TECH- A player under the radar for solid depth Appreciate your comments and questions.
Grayson? How about a better offensive lineman in the 2nd? Donkey Kong Suh is going to stomp then kill whoever is under center ... the thought of Colon or anyone else on this roster right now blocking this guy scares the living shit out of me. Also, don't think Nate Orchard slides to the 3rd - that's just me, but I am glad he's on your radar. He was very successful against Peat twice. I've noticed none of the big time guards have visited the Jets. Prob the reason why you wouldn't mock them.
I happen not to like any OTs that should be available in Rd 2, the value is real bad. There is no OT in Rd 2 or later is going to be a starter on the Jets this year. Remember we have Carpenter to start instead of Colon. I'd rather take a potential future starting QB. You can't address every need and next year with Free Agency and the Draft we can get an Outstanding OT to replace Brick.
Made a mock which had a similar situation with our pick at 6, posting it later. Really hope we do go White/Cooper if that's what we are dealt with. Rather go OLB in round 2 if possible , don't like Grayson that early.
COOOOOOOOP! I'd like us to trade down in the 2nd pick if possible what do you think the trade value for our 2nd pick would be? it's still pretty high up
I would be ok with this scenario. Grayson is a complete wild card in this draft... I see his ceiling being Alex Smith and his floor is a average CFL QB... Personally I would try to add TJ Yeldon in the 2nd. Coop and TJ!!! Bama East!!!! Doubt Orchard falls to the 3rd.. I see him as a mid 2nd rounder
I'm not sold on Grayson but the rest of the draft is top notch. You list Miller as an OT...you think that's his NFL position or OG?
I'm more about the guard positions more then anything else. Looking at the visits list, not 1 guard came. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/...fl-2015-draft-jets-visits-include-6-qbs-7-wrs Doesn't seem to be all that much of a priority according to how things are stacking up, but still I think that interior part of the line, the guards, it needs to improve as well. I guess everyone is thinking Carpenter and Oday will hold it down. We have Dozier as well. I would be shocked if the Jets felt confident at that LG / RG position. Remember, we have those boys in Buffalo and Suh in Miami. Tackle will need to wait I think as well.
He played OT, but will be a project. The Jets probably aren't going to find Brick's replacement this year.
Which of the offensive tackles at top of Round 2 do you not like? Good left tackles almost never come up in free agency. I can't think of one that came up this year or last year. Brick is already declining. What do you think of Ogbuehi? flowers? Or Jake fisher if he drops?
Humphries & Clemmings are not two of my favorites. Flowers is going in mid rd 1 and I think Fisher is going in late Rd 1. I just don't see our next LT in Rd 2.
This is on the money. There are a bunch of mid-grade lineman after the 1st round this year, it's so light that a guy who plays in basically a high school league is shooting up the board. Grayson that high would be a reach for need in my opinion, there could be some other players sliding right out of the 1st round that could be potentially there for the taking in round 2. I liked some of the things I saw from Grayson, but watching him play Utah in the bowl game reminded me a lot of Sanchez. Perhaps he's not that guy, but it gave me an eerie feeling watching him start to go in the toilet as the wheels fell off. If Colorado St would have been blown out from the get go, I would attribute his bad performance to being heavily over matched. However, he played well for awhile and then when momentum started to swing he looked like a deer in headlights. I won't put it all on one game though, it just gave me some second thoughts.
Nice mock WW. The only pick I disagree with is Grayson. My opinion is that he'll never be more than a low tier backup in the NFL. At 2 I would pray for Melvin Gordon to still be on the board. The guy has wheels and a complimentary skill set to the other runners on the team. It's difficult to pass up a potential home run hitter in Rd 2, if available.
Interesting observation. I felt the same way about him in the Nevada game... Once the heat was turned up, he was kind of all over the place. Thanks for the info.
I'd be surprised if the Raiders passed on Cooper. I think there's a very real chance Fowler makes it to #6, but I think the pick winds up being Beasley.
I'd love to get Fowler but I don't see it happening. I'll be stoked if we get him but unless the top 5 goes something like: Winston, Mariota, Williams, WR and then the Redskins trade down or take Beasley instead of Fowler then we're SOL.
I have to disagree. That was a terrible group. Jones was thrust into a number one role after having moderate success as the 3rd/4th receiver on the team with the best QB in the NFL and honestly stunk up the joint as their #1. Holmes was a flash-and-gone guy.... I think he had one or two big games and did nothing the rest of the year. I caught 3 or 4 Raiders games this year and their receivers were pathetic. It didn't help that they had absolutely no running game, though... you can tell teams completely stopped scheming against the run vs them with hoe Latavius Murray had a handful of nice games after replacing the old broken guys.
Crabtree is only on a one-year contract. I could easily see Oakland taking a WR if they draft BPA if Williams goes #2.
