    And Mariota is Tim Tebow.

That's what you get when all your opinions of players are based solely on Google, Wikipedia and Pro Football Reference.com.

no thanks, too much talent to move up to 2. im ok going mariotta at 6 but im not ok using the 6th pick plus trading picks to get him. id rather take cooper or white or beasley or whomever is there

To trade up from #6 to #2 according to the Draft Value Chart would cost the Jets 1000 points or the equivalent of an overall #16. In some cases I would do it but not for Mariota.

mmm… fuck that. trade down or not at all.

my problem being theres nobody I want to give up two firsts over (lets not kid ourselves it will take at least next years first to try this) theres too much needless risk with that.

Theres enough talent that I'm good sitting at 6, we won't miss out on a bluechip QB/WR/OLB if we stay there. nobody is such a "gotta have 'em" prospect over another that I think we should take the risk. not even QB, impatience over finding a franchise QB doesn't justify ignoring their general value next to their non-QB peers. not in my book. Mariota fits about as well as cooper or fowler, to me they're of a similar level of chance to be something special at their respective positions for us.

stay at 6 unless WE get a ransom and pick your pleasure. we'll get talent either way if we do, so why lose some later? I like Mariota enough but I won't bet the house on him just to fill a need NOW, he's not that sure a thing that I give up future talent for him, I cant be convinced of that.

If we're gonna mortgage the future like that do it for the #1. I don't know if the Bucs are willing to deal but I honestly have zero doubts about Jameis on the field

Um, I think I'm the only one to ever compare Mariota to Tebow. ..... but first you say it's an idiotic comparison that no one else has made, and then you say it's based on "Google, Wikipedia, and Pro Football Reference.com". ..... you don't even make sense.

That's a good idea ... unbiased analysis from actual NFL scouts might add some credibility to the discussion here.

That's how educated people debate things, they use credible sources to back up their arguments. I'm starting to wonder if you ever went to college.

(That's also why the Catholic Church is so popular, we have all the facts and evidence on our side. That's why it works so well for people in their lives, at least for those who really participate fully in it.)

part of me wants them to but i know for mariota its not worth it. if the chargers weren't in the mix then maybe we wouldnt give up as much but to beat out a phillip rivers offer we'd have to give up much more. we can still end up with a stud wr in cooper or beasly/fowler.

I don't see us trading up to #2 BUT if the Raiders want a stud WR and the first 3 picks are Winston, Williams and Fowler then we could trade to #4 and get Mariota and Raiders are still guaranteed one of Cooper or White plus a 2nd round pick. ;)

I'm kind of in the same place. If the TEN drafts him or trades the pick to SD in exchange for Rivers, I can live with that as to beat that would require too much. I still believe he will be there at 6 if we sit tight. Outside those 2 scenarios, I don't believe any other team pick or trade up into the top 5 to draft him other in fear or some other team beating us to the punch. I don't want to bid againt ourselves.

The Jets quietly brought Oregon QB Marcus Mariota to Florham Park for a visit on 4/2, five days after working him out privately in Eugene.

    Albert Breer ✔@AlbertBreer
That makes the Jets one of three teams, joining the Bucs and Titans, to both work Mariota out on campus and bring him in to their facility.

Mariota's visit to Jets came right after his Bears visit. He visited 4 teams (TB, TEN, NYJ, CHI), worked out for 5 (TB, TEN, NYJ, STL, SD).
