Runs a sub 4.4 40 yard dash, big back can break tackles but has the agility of a smaller back, Complete back can do it all run, catch, block, etc. What is not to like?
There are certain positions that u just do not draft too high.....guard, center, tight end, safety, and running back. Gurley may be good but with all the other talent out there at LB, WR, and OL - why in the world would we take a RB at six.
That makes him your favorite player in the draft? He's a running back. He's a big guy to be so fast but he doesn't have much for moves and even though he got checked out medically there is no way his legs are as strong as they were in college after coming back from that injury. I like him a lot but at 6, that is delusional, I'd take 5 pass rushers over him in a blink at 6
bill walsh talked about this philosophy and bill belichick believes in it too. they believe if a guy is really going to help your football team win games it doesn't matter if you take them at 6 or 10
it should also be stated that OBVIOUSLY you draft a RB for his running ability, but that isn't the ONLY reason. Gurley is good in pass pro and is a good receiver out of the backfield. that is super valuable and our current crop of RBs don't provide that
If we took a RB at 6 I would question the mental capacity of the FO. A RB in round 2 is pushing it. I would be shocked to see a RB drafted before round 3. Too much value in other positions throughout this draft.
I feel he is good player but if we draft him I hope we traded back. IMO Gordon is as good if not better! Plus Gordon is built to last in the NFL For our needs Mariota Winston Cooper Fowler White Gurley/Gordon
I'd rather have Amari Cooper. Getting Gurley would certainly make Rex cry. The fact that he's a RB would certainly make it an unpopular pick, but the Jets desperately need playmakers. If he were to stay healthy and be a playmaker, he'd be invaluable to the team. Very risky at 6 imo.
Adrian Peterson was drafted 7th in 2007. Gurley and Peterson coming out of college are very similar. From wikipedia: "Coming into the league, he was known as a tall, upright runner possessing a rare combination of speed, strength, agility, size, and vision, along with a highly aggressive running style.[2] His rare talent as both a great breakaway and power runner has often raised comparisons to past legends, including Eric Dickerson, Walter Payton, Gale Sayers, O. J. Simpson, Franco Harris and Jim Brown.[50] Concerns about his injuries suffered during college were noted by the media and potential NFL teams.[6][20][51][52] He started 22 out of 31 games in his college career and had a dislocated shoulder his first year (although he did not miss any games), a high ankle sprain his sophomore year, and a broken collarbone his final year at Oklahoma.[6] His durability was a consideration for at least two teams in their draft analysis,[52] which impacted selection position. Prior to the 2007 NFL Draft, Peterson was compared by professional footballscouts to Eric Dickerson.[53]ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper, Jr. said of Peterson, "You can make the argument, [Peterson] is the best player in this draft, if not, certainly one of the top three."[54] _______________________ These are the same comments being made about Gurley. So no, I wouldnt have a problem with the Jets picking Gurley with the 6th pick. Better if they can swing a trade to move down a few slots and still select him with an additional pick. But when was the last time the Jets had a real difference maker on offense? Curtis Martin?
Yahoo! Sports' Charles Robinson reports the "word on the street" is Georgia RB Todd Gurley will be a top-10 pick. Specifically, Robinson expects Gurley to be picked in the 6-10 range. The Jets and Falcons at Nos. 6 and 8, respectively, would seem to be the most logical fits in that range, as ESPN's Todd McShay's most-recent mock draft released on Wednesday has the Jets taking Gurley at No. 6. Gurley reportedly received "two thumbs up" at his medical recheck in Indianapolis, adding more fuel to Gurley's already piping-hot draft stock. He's a lock to come off the board on Day 1.
I would only take Gurley if the first 5 picks are Winston, Mariota, Williams, Cooper, Fowler. Even then, it would be hard to go with an RB at 6 over Kevin White, Vic Beasley or Shane Ray all on the board.
Agreed. If the top 5 went that way my order of preference would be -trade back if possible -Beasley -White -Gurley
Even if Gurley were guaranteed to be the next A.P, this is still too high to draft a running back in today's NFL.
I'd rather not spend a top six pick on a running back who is going to run behind Ferguson and Giacomini and Colon? Let's follow the Cowboys approach and build the line first. RB is the least of our issues right now...Patriots won with Blount and Vereen. How often do franchise running backs become available in free agency? Now compare that to franchise left tackles? How about game changing pass rushers? Or even franchise WRs. We should be using the draft to build positions that don't come up in free agency, and spending a top pick on gurley is not a good idea. He's a great back, but not for us at 6 with a crappy line and QB situation. I'd prefer David Johnson in the third round or Gordon if he falls to the second.
