you aren't worried about Gurley's knee? To me there are so many good backs in this draft... many of them just slightly below the abilities of a healthy Gurley anyway. Keeping that in mind and thinking about Gurley's knee, I'd pass until the 3rd round easily.
That is a fair point. It is irrelevant. I just thought it was interesting to note. I disagree that Gurley is the best RB in this draft though.
I don't like Duke Johnson... I don't like Jay Ajayi.... Love Coleman though.. I'd wait to the 3rd and see who's available. Still going to be some good choices in round 3 (perhaps many of the names in this thread already mentioned to choose from)
I make no secret that I'm a fan of Duke Johnson in the 2nd or 3rd round (he probably won't be around in the 3rd though). A RB I like a lot as a 7th round or UDFA is Corey Grant from Auburn. I don't know what the draft boards don't like about him other than the runs outside too much, but I like the kid.
He's my favorite this draft because he's a perfect fit for us. I would not be surprised if he is selected as high as the 2nd.
I really hope that kid lasts until the 3rd round. I don't think I would burn a 2nd rounder on Duke, but a 3rd rounder oh absolutely.

You don’t want him playing wide out for your team. His hands are poor, featuring some extremely ugly drops over the year. His routes are labored, and he doesn’t seem comfortable with what he is doing at all. So what is there to work with? I think he’s a running back, and a pretty good one, masquerading at receiver. The other bonus with Montgomery is he will be a very useful return man into the bargain. I have seen him compared to Cordarrelle Patterson, and while I think that’s a pretty good fit, the difference between the two is body type. Patterson is 6-foot-2 and is built and runs like a receiver, so any backfield carries he is given will be occasional. Montgomery is 6-foot at best and 220 pounds. He is built like a runner and does his best work with the ball in his hands, even running between the tackles. Only four receivers notched more missed tackles forced than Montgomery’s 17, and the lowest number of receptions amongst them had 45 more than the Stanford Cardinal. He may not be viable as a receiver, but hand him the ball as a running back and you might just have something. Signature Stat: Averaged 12.4 yards per carry on wide receiver runs (end arounds etc), but a respectable 4.8 yards per carry on conventional running back carries.
My fear is Marshall and Decker both missed games last year and if one of them gets hurt, we are looking at last years WR group. Thats why I may be in the minority, but if one of the QBs isn't there at 6, we should go Cooper or White. This defense can still be very good without adding an explosive pass rusher, but if we don't have the option of one of the QBs at 6, we need to give Geno/Fitz as many weapons as possible to be successful. You can scheme good defense and we already have a lot of talent on that side of the ball. With still no home run hitter on offense, I think we have to take one of the two WRs at 6 if we don't draft QB.
Excellent point. I see both sides of the OLB vs WR issue. Either should help the team tremendously as long as Mac doesn't miss on the pick. I can see where WR could definitely be more important, and then there's the facts that the Jets haven't used their #1 pick on an offensive player in a while, and it's been a while since they've drafted an elite WR. Still, with Bowles being a former defensive DC, I'd be surprised if the Jets went with a WR rather than an OLB.
Marshall isn't getting any younger. That's why I would love Cooper on this squad as his skill-sets match perfectly with Marshall and Decker.
I have no idea of Mike's & Todd's top 6 board (since they preach BPA), but if Cooper is available at #6 it has to be a strong consideration. Back on topic, I'm not a fan of getting a RB in Rd 2, in this draft, unless the top 2 Guys fell. There is some quality depth to be had in Rd 3 or 4. Don't be surprised if we draft Garrett Grayson in Rd 2, he's not lasting to Rd 3 and his stock is on the rise.
Idk if you can tell from the thread I started, but I love Grayson. I wouldn't mind trading back in the 2nd and taking him .
now that it's 34 days from the post you had quoted....if mariota isn't there at #6, you have to go cooper if he's available. i don't agree with your point of viewas to why, as decker was hurt for us almost all of last year, and not many teams have the luxury of having 2 pro bowl receivers. you can't worry about injuries like that, it's a part of football. you just hope they aren't too serious. if one of them were to get hurt, you still have one left, and that's more than we really had last year. I think you go Cooper because I can't recall the last time a WR was such a safe pick to be an all-pro for the next decade. The guy will tear it up, and we need to provide Geno or Fitz with the best receivers in the league, or our offense will again keep us out of the playoffs.
Big risk to trade back, all it takes is one team to draft him. I have GG rated as my #3 QB, ahead of BH & BP. Grayson is one of my top wants for the Jets, I think he's going to be a special player. Grayson's stock is on the rise and if the Jets don't take him in early Rd 2 he will be gone.
Gurley or Gordon is available for our second pick I'm going for it. If we can trade back from 6, I would probably use the additional picks to trade back into the first for Gurley (if he's there).
i would be pretty damn pissed if we took a RB in the second round. we have too many issues and RB is such a low value position and it is just too easy a position to fill. I'd rather look for a RB as an undrafted FA or sign someone cut off another roster or that sort of thing. Maybe use a 7th rounder if need be. I think we need to go oline/pass rusher/ILB/WR in round 2 depending what happens in round 1
