You found 1 mock draft from like the day before the actual draft that projected Geno falling all the way to round 2. The vast majority of draft analysts expected him to go in the top 5 overall, I remember that clearly. Unfortunately it's not that easy to find old articles from 2013 on mock drafts, but here's what I came up with: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer...raft-chiefs-select-geno-smith-with-first-pick From CBS Sports, Geno Smith projected to go #1 overall to the Chiefs. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...-luke-joeckel-geno-smith-ryan-nassib/2108223/ From USA Today, April 24 "How many QB's join Geno Smith in 1st round? (he's projected #23 to Browns) http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...st-draft-day-projections-from-top-nfl-experts "West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith is one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2013 NFL draft, but experts across the league can’t agree on his career outlook or exactly which team will draft him. While most NFL insiders and draft experts have him being selected in the first round, some big-name analysts like Mel Kiper have projected that the talented QB prospect will fall out of the first roundaltogether. All of the following experts think that Smith will be taken in the first round, but each has his own twist on exactly how this pick could go down." "The Reality Of all the experts, Miller is one of the few that has stuck with Geno Smith at No. 2 overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars. While others have changed the first-round projections to an offensive tackle heavy top-four, there is still a great chance that Smith ends up being the second pick of the draft." Sounds a lot like Mariota...."intriguing prospect", but disagreements on what kind of Pro QB he will become. Mariota seems to be ranked a little higher, but he's been criticized a lot for inconsistent accuracy, no experience going though progressions and reading defenses, and fumbling problems. Sounds a lot like another Geno Smith to me!
From Bleacher Report, April 25, 2013 "Where Geno Smith Lands: Cleveland Browns at No. 6 overall. What Mike Mayock Says" "When I look at Geno, I see a kid who's got everything you want to see in a franchise quarterback, but there's just too much bad tape. I would not take him this early; I would go for an edge or a corner. However, I really think Joe Banner might pull the trigger on the quarterback from West Virginia." The Reality While Mike Mayock is one of the best NFL analysts in the business, there is no doubt that he is underestimating Smith's talents." Smith has the size, strength and accuracy to be a serious passing threat in the NFL, and with his elite mobility and the success of quarterbacks like Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick, there is no doubt that a team will look to draft the best QB in this draft early in the first round. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...st-draft-day-projections-from-top-nfl-experts So, despite his mixed review of Geno, he still projected him to be selected #6 overall.

It really doesn't matter what Mike Mycock said. It matters where Geno was picked, and regrettably we were the ones stupid enough to bite on him. There's no way MM is gonna drop anywhere near where we took Geno. Also, look around more. There's no scouting reports on MM that were as bad as some of Geno's. Every player has plus and minus on their reports. It seems to me you're finding the positives on Geno and the negatives on MM. The teams' reports and big boards are different than the media's. They have more resources and do more extensive digging and work, including private work outs and interviews. MM will succeed or fail on his own merit, it will nothing to do with the media's assessment oh him. I bet MM goes early, that's where the teams have him, that's what matters.
First off, the first mock draft you posted WAS created in February . No mock draft had Geno going first or second or third , and I remember very few mock drafts having him go into the top ten. Jet fans were not "shocked" when Geno was avaliable. .. I wanted no part of him, but I'm still willing to give a chance, even if we draft Mariota. It's hard to take you seriously when you've already admitted that you have not watched any tape of Mariota, you've also compared Mariota to Tebow and that was asinine (this is coming from a Gators alumni), and you've already said that you formulate opinions based on the evaluations of Kiper , McCShay, and other supposed draft "experts". It's fine to not like Mariota as a prospect, but don't make up BS to support your opinion.
When you start asinine threads starting with "before you jump down my throat and call me names" and you compare a top top top QB prospect to Tim Tebow and Geno Smith, you've invited people to jump down your throat and call you names. You should be banned for wasting bandwidth. And someone with your views on life accusing anyone else of living in a fantasy world is the ultimate in irony. _
You know where teams have MM on their boards. You must have some insider info. Cmon man, share some tidbits with us.
Pretty much how I remember it too. At the beginning of the college season, I remember seeing Geno ranked no. 1. Stock continued to rise with that seven TD pass game he had. Then for some reason WVU, had a series of bad losses toward the end of the season, and Geno's stock went way down. Can't say the same for Mariota's stock, it has always been pretty high as well as the level of his performance.
It's comical, he's been doing this for months. He's developed an opinion of a player based off of draft guides and blogs and Internet articles. He's never actually seen the guy play. He'll deny it now but he admitted it months ago when he went on a similarly non-first hand rant about MM. It's embarrassing. Too bad Lindy's doesn't publish its draft report anymore, he's lost this year. _
What are taking about? I said there's no way MM is going where Geno went, in spite a couple of reports in the media.. I'll wager you on that if you'd like to disagree. Name the bet
He was first in the minds of moronic ESPN and faux draftnik types because he was beating up on James Madison and Marshall. He was the Heisman front runner too, in September. Because all those guys saw were the gaudy stats and never saw him play, didn't see the inflated stats based on shovel passes to Austin and Bailey that would go in the books as 80 yard TDs. His stats were a mirage. When he got to the thick of his schedule he fell so hard back to earth no one ever again mentioned him again as a Heisman candidate or the number 1 pick. No NFL team ever had him there. He looked like crap in the Pinstripe Bowl against an awful Syracuse team and that sealed his fate. I saw it in person, he was awful. _
What's separates Mariota and Geno is what is north of the eyebrows. But Geno can still be a decent QB. He just isn't Marcus.
