The one thing you can say about Ken O'Brien is he really stepped it up when he played against the Dolphins
yes, briefly...as a joke and I wasn't complaining about others posting stuff on here. I think it's funny one would whine about me posting how I think Brady is the best and then have a Rams avatar. that cannot be debated, he'd be a HOFer if he played against others the way he played against Miami.
he'd be the same QB today, waiting for the big play, taking sacks and not winning enough games. do you remember the in the grasp rule? to pretend like QBs today don't get hit hard is foolish. they may not have the same legal hits but athletes today are so much bigger, stronger, faster and QBs still get killed.
I don't think the QB contact rules would help much (we still had the worst offensive line in the league for most of his career), but the WR contact rules would have helped him immensely.
today's rules in general would be extremely favorable to him. not just the rules on hitting the QB but all the new rules that heavily favor the offense and put defenses at a disadvantage. A modern day QB I would compare him to would be Matt Stafford
I thank you for trying to deflect but here were the 3 previous games Led O to 5.3 PPG threw 1 TD(trailing 21-3 in 4th vs. SF) threw 6 INTs Mark Sanchez had 3 INTs in 6 PLAYOFF games(all on the road), Mark threw 3 TDs in a single playoff game(Ken threw 2 total in 3 PO games), the LEAST amount of points Mark led an O to in the PLAYOFFS was 17(which is more than 5.3, right? and more than the career high of 10 Ken led the Jets to in postseason).
I just wonder the big what ifs: How would O'Brien have fared as QB of the 2009 and 2010 Jets as the playoffs started vs how would Sanchez have done behind the 1985 and 1986 teams as the playoffs started. Also, one big knock on Sanchez is holding the ball too long.
So you agree, with the more stringent covering rules DB's have to deal with, O'Brien would have excelled. Thanks.
Yep, hand the ball off, hand the ball off, hand the ball off, hand the ball off. In all but one game when allowed to pass they lost. AKA when they needed him to stand up and carry them and not just hand the ball off...flat faced.
so how does that compare to what O'Brien did during that putrid stretch watching us go from div winner and bye to barely making playoffs as WC then needing his backup to win WC game?
considering Ken couldn't win w/ a more talented team in a weaker era of AFC football I don't see how he helped us in 2009/2010. Mark would throw it away and risk TOs, Ken would take sacks. both can be bad but Mark made big plays and limited TOs in postseason which helped us win a lot of games.
no healthy RB or good Offensive line to hand the ball off to on a regular basis for consistent wins. Also injuries to Mark Gastineau which hurt the defenses ability to keep the other teams from scoring, along with other team injuries played roles in that.
Eh Mark had Brady, O'brien and the Kelly AND Marino. the jets offensive line of the era was far worse than Marks OL, and was below league average. and Junc, throwing the ball away DOES NOT lead to more interceptions, throwing the ball away in today's game prevents interceptions, doesn't increase interceptions. Throwing the ball away is the safe play, interceptions come from bad throws or forcing the ball in to overly tight windows, both of which Mark was very guilty of. Mark's never been known for wisely throwing the ball away, case in point the 3 pump fake to the corner of the endzone to a receiver who was double covered and instead of throwing the ball away and trying again on the next down he tried to force it and got picked. Typical Sanchez interception. For someone who claims to watch football you have a remarkable lack of understanding for what throwing the football away is.
He had McNeil and Hector, one of the best duo's in the league. OL was good excellent WRs/TEs we never had a pass rusher like Gastineau or Klecko on the recent teams.
Brady is the best of that bunch and Brady led an NFL dynasty, those other 2 did not. Marino and Kelly missed multiple postseasons in O'Brien's prime. Mark would try to make plays when they weren't there rather than taking a sack or throwing OOB. tell me again about this wrap on O'Brien's hand that you remember watching?
