If you climb off of your media-blown high horse for just a second and for a millisecond allow that your FO might, just MIGHT, not be as noble as you were conditioned to believe, you might see the truth. Personally I don't think any NFL team would knowingly employ a murderer, or someone they believed was capable of it, when reputations are such a huge part of the legacy of any coach or owner. Again, makes little to no sense. If they knew what AH was up to, or what he could do, then they're idiots for extending him. You guys should know, the Patriots have no problem getting rid of players. Even talented ones.
I don't think that's what they are saying. They are saying they knew he had been in a ton of trouble before they ever got him and the prudent thing would be to think he might be again. But hey, he scored a few tds, right?
Look Kraft didn't actually know that Hernandez was going around and killing people. But no one has ever accused Kraft or Belichick of being stupid. So don't even try to go in that direction. They knew there were serious potential problems with him. For 40 mil you investigate the guy. And I have no doubts they did.

10 week trial, 132 witnesses called by the prosecution. The defense called 3 witnesses, plus admitted to him being there at the murder. Tell me they weren't setting up an appeal due to incompetence.
They didn't know he was going to go on a murdering rampage, but they certainly assumed the risk that he was an immature druggie who was around trouble when they drafted him at a substantial discount. All the other teams knew it - That's why he fell. That kind of player is not The Patriot Way according to the lofty ideals of such a respected and prideful organization. They then had to know that he had been investigated for shooting his friend in the face before they gave him his extension, as they must do a background check before making a $40 mill commitment to the guy. The allegations were investigated and were a matter a public record well before the time the contract was signed, so they assumed a further risk by giving him the extension. And why sign him to that extension when he still had two years left on his rookie deal? Why the rush? Did they get a murderous thug discount? Here's an article about Hernandez signing his extension.
