I think that's a little unfair, there were red flags all over this guy coming out of college but to think he was capable of murdering at least one person possibly 2 more is not something any franchise could have expected or anticipated. Smoking some hash in college is a long way away from killing someone in cold blood. The Jets as well as every other team in the NFL has had pieces of shit who played for them... remember Damien Robinson? Guy got nailed with assault weapons like 3 days after 9-11.
These comments are disgusting, to assume the Patriots deserve any type of criticism for their player murdering people outside of work. And where does it say they further enabled and ignored his monstrous conduct? Just by giving him a contract? Most teams in the NFL would have given him a contract (before this of course). He hung around with the wrong crowd and had some minor issues in the past but no one could have foreseen the guy murdering multiple people and many guys in the NFL have off field concerns, but again no one expects this. If I went on a murder spree tomorrow I don't think anyone would be attacking my employer for hiring such a monster. Don't let your hate of the Patriots cause you to make ridiculous statements about this somehow reflecting on their organization.
Stop... just stop! Enebling criminals and cheating IS the Patriots way Just be happy your team gets all the media blowjobs.
I agree the Patriots cheat but where did they enable a criminal? If you want to get technical the Jets have enabled criminals in the past as well.... Braylon Edwards? Everyone deserves a second chance (well most people) and getting busted for some drug shit or possession of a firearm isn't killing someone.
When did he shoot the guy in the face though and more importantly when did the Pats find out about it? If I remember correctly nobody even knew about this guy until after the stuff with Lloyd happened. I very well could be wrong about the timing though and if so yeah maybe you do have a point.
You can blame them for re-signing Hernandez. If he had a track record of gang involvement and a shit load of incidents at Florida, etc they should have thoroughly investigated him before giving him that contract. You would think if they did they would have shit canned him just based alone on his associations.
I think the money is going to his lawyers. He's still got more trials ahead plus an appeal. He didn't get the entire 40 mil from his NEP contract probably just a small % of it.
Hernandez was investigated for his alleged role in a triple shooting when he was at Florida. The victim rescinded a prior ID of Hernandez as one of the shooters He fails drug tests at Florida. He got drafted in 2010. 1st round talent taken in the 4th, due to drugs, character and maturity issues. He shot the two dudes outside the nightclub July 2012 He signed his extension in August 2012. He shot his friend in the face Feb 2013. The friend doesn't cooperate with authorities so no charges get filed. He shot Lloyd June of 2013. Any team making a $40 million investment should be aware of these facts.
And teams were too. That's how the pats were able to draft him in the 4th round. Many teams took him completely off their draft board. Urban Meyer specifically told teams they were so worried about his behavior with his gangster home friends they would try everything they could to keep him away from The New England area during breaks when he was in Florida. What does BB do???? As head coach OF New England? Draft him anyway.. And then extend him when everyone in the organization already knew he was an ass by then
However were the Pats aware of this when they gave him the extension? Yes he fucked up at Florida but after he was drafted he was on good behavior. I can't imagine the Pats would be naive enough to give the guy 40 million dollars if they knew he shot 2 guys in the face. To be fair he never was charged with the shooting at Florida. Yeah it's sketchy the guy rescinded but he hadn't had any trouble with the law while he was in the NFL until the Lloyd thing went down.
Even the Bengals, who were desperate for a TE and have no trouble drafting guys with sketchy character, did not consider taking him. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...als-wary-of-hernandezs-character-gronks-back/
This is such a jaded Jets fan, bullshit view of the entire story I don't know where to start. Think about what you're suggesting. The Patriots handed a $40M contract extension to a player even though, according to you, they knew (or should have known, or at least had a hint) he was capable of murdering someone? That makes no sense whatsoever. Why would they do that? Just because he was a talented football player? Are you assuming they knew and were just hoping he wouldn't get caught? Sorry but as much as you may despise the Patriots that's just an idiotic statement. Hernandez had a track record that was, at the time, really no worse than about half the guys in the league. And he kept his nose clean for the first two or three years or whatever it was. It's easy to armchair this whole situation now. Some people take sports and sports rivalries way, way too seriously. The notion that Belichick and/or the Krafts would enable a murderer or look the other way, just for the benefit of their football team, is beyond ridiculous.
Kraft probably not but Belichick maybe... Its not really that far fetched to believe they valued his talent so much they overlooked his potential off the field. Obviously they wouldn't have drafted him/signed him if they knew he was a murderer but in a league full of criminals and assholes its important to note that he stood out as worse than others. And Belichick's close relationship with Urban Meyer? who said he either going to end up in prison or the hall of fame? you are telling me they were really not thinking this was possible???
Why don't you take the blinders off and check off the chronology of serious incidents in his past. And maybe Kraft did know and still didn't care.
