What? OMG some of you guys! How do you get that it doesn't seem like we have the least bit of interest in Mariota? Didn't 6 Jets (Mac, Gailey, Bowles, QB Coach and 2 others) fly to see his pro day? What do you expect them to do or say? Mac doesn't want to tip his hand one way or the other, but he has even made allusions to possibly trading up. If anything, he has shown that the Jets are very interested, not disinterested.

Yes and at the Pro Day it was visibly clear that every GM was watching Mariota run, then Mac is off in the distance talking on his phone not watching.

Woody and Bowles speaking highly of Geno and seeing reports over the last few months that we would most likely trade back than take Mariot. I've come to the conclusion that we are not interested.

Just because we sent scouts to his PD and had him in for a workout doesn't mean anything.

Just because Mac was in the back talking on the phone at the Pro Day doesn't mean he wasn't watching or mean anything, either. He could have been feigning disinterest. I'm sure the Pro Days are filmed. What better way to look like he isn't interested than to be "talking on the phone" like he wasn't paying attention? There have been no reports from the Jets about trading back. Bowles said that everyone wants to trade back, but few want to move up in a general way. That's all that was said. The reports about trading back, just like the reports about trading up, or Philly trading up, or Washington taking Mariota, are all part of the rumors and disinformation that GMs spread this time of year. For that matter just last week Mac was talking about how close to the #1 spot they were implying that they might try to trade up.

I think it's all part of the games Mac has been playing so that other teams won't know what the Jets are going to do, unlike with Tanny who practically told everyone who he was going to take.

@NFLDraftBites: Redskins discussions w/ Bears, Rams, Vikings, Browns & Saints on trading down from 5th Overall. No talk w/ Eagles, pick very much available.

    @NFLDraftBites
Jets called Browns about trading out 6. Jets aggressor so won't get full value, but looking trade out if possible. GM wants recoup pick(s).

According to Fatcessa, pointwise, the Jets would need to throw in their 2nd, 3rd and 4th to trade down to 2, which would leave the Jets with a 7th.

There are people debating the significance of our general manager being on his cell phone during a pro day. Can the draft please just get here already...

It would take a LOT more than that to move up for a QB, lol. At a minimum, we're looking at 3rd and 5th this year, 2nd and 4th next year, but more likely it would cost us next year's 1st rounder plus additional picks. Was just watching them analyze this exact trade on NFL Live on ESPN, and they said we should compare it to what the Skins gave up for RGIII (which was #6 to #2 that year!), and they even compared Mariota to RGIII as a prospect. I personally think RGIII was a much better prospect than Mariota, but there are enough people who view Mariota as a franchise QB that it will take a blockbuster trade to go up and get him. Whichever team "wins" the bidding war will likely pay a king's ransom to go up and get him.

Mariota IMO is a much better prospect than RG3... RG IMO was a better track athlete but didn't show he was a true football player to me. Mariota is a downright football player with similar athleticism as RG3.

If this is the case, how do you explain RG3's success his rookie season?

I've seen former scouts/espn talking heads say that Mariota is a better prospect than RG3. The articles are out there. They have similar athleticism but I think RG3's was a little better and his deep ball was better. Back then, RG3 got a lot of media praise but there were grumbles at Baylor that he was a me-first, diva. Also, Oregon's offense is more complex than Baylor's offense. Riddick and DJ have talked about this. Oregon does full field reads, Baylor doesn't.

College performance means nothing once a guy gets drafted. Let's hope Mariota's transition to the NFL won't be as painful as RG3's.

I was watching NFL Live on ESPN today, and Herm Edwards, a former NFL QB coach, and a couple former college players were demonstrating how much work Mariota is going to have to put in just to learn the basics of being an NFL QB, since he never took a snap from center in college (except kneel-downs). They said he will have to start with just learning how to take the handoff and drop back, and then how to simultaneously read the defense while doing that, and learn to make adjustments.

Mariota is mature and hard-working, but it's still a projection as to what kind of Pro QB he will be. He's a great athlete, but way too many question marks imo to be worth such a high draft pick. (don't forget, the same things were said about Tebow when he came out and we all know how that turned out). NFL QB is the hardest position to play in all of sports, and much different from what Mariota and Tebow played in college.

Wouldn't Mariota technically be in a Shot gun a lot if we got him too? We're running a spread now.. so why would taking snaps from under center matter this much to Jets fans?

Because fans are grasping at anything to tear down a legit top prospect.

Putting Marcus Mariota and Tim Tebow in the same sentence is some of the dumbest shit I've ever read on this board.

And there has been some really dumb stuff posted lately.

Since when was Herm ever a QB coach in the NFL? If you don't see the difference between Mariota and Tebow as NFL prospects I don't know what to tell you. I will say though it is absolutely ridonculous.

I think he meant Herm AND a QB coach.

But still, such a naive analysis.

Giving who ever made the Mariota Tebow comparison... maybe he's comparing the hype around the two players? I don't see any similarities skill wise... at all...
