I can't complain about turning over every stone. Geno never really showed me anything I haven't seen before as a Jets fan. He definitely was not the first rounder he believes he is.He was in a system that had a 5 year learning curve but I don't think he was close enough to feel like he was our guy. http://nyj.247sports.com/Bolt/Report-Jets-are-ready-to-move-on-from-Geno-Smith-36769757
Terrible article. Just because we're meeting with most of the Qbs in the draft doesn't mean we're in any way "done" with Geno. Why wouldn't we want to draft a Qb in this draft? We clearly aren't set at Qb so we're doing our due diligence at the position. None of that means in any way that Geno won't be starting week 1 this year nor that we will be cutting him or anything. Pure speculation.
Geezuz I'm as down on Geno as anyone but he's not going anywhere probably for at least the next 2 years. _
stop posting every shit article written by shit outlets like The Onion, so tired of this and I can't stand Genocide
yeah but "jets commit acts of due diligence" doesn't sell now does it? so, y'know…"Winston's coming for a visit?! the jets are trading up for winston!11!!!!1!!!"
Based on things I've read about Mac and Bowles and their thinking on Geno: and this could be totally untrue. But my take on this is that they think he can turn it around. That he's capable of better things. And they don't want to waste the experience he has which is 29 starts. Almost all young Qbs are going to suck if they play early in their career. And some guys see the light and things become slower and they are capable of improving and not making bad decisions. And in year 3 it's time for Geno to see the light or he has to go. So I can see them trying to work with him and seeing if there is improvement. In reading defenses and not making the kinds of mistakes that can lead to turnovers. Plus having the ability to move a team and score regularly. And if it's not clear in training camp that he's better he hits the bench in 2015 and then they get rid of him.
You do have to wonder just what effect all of this negative press has on Geno. He's human and he can read so he knows what's going on. Now if the Jets land Mariota, Geno is probably a placeholder this year while Marcus learns from Fitz. Even if they draft a QB late, say Petty on day 2, Geno still has to realize he's on borrowed time and working with the shortest leash possible. Geno has no room for error this year.
Hopefully Geno has a short memory and a certain ignorance towards the media. If he doesn't it could be contributing to his downfall.
Geno's personality is even blander than Eli Manning (if that's possible). He hasn't done anything on or off the field to ingratiate himself with the fans. As a matter of fact he's fucked up a number of times with the sexting (not as stupid as that idiot Brett Favre because he's a young guy and Favre was in his 30's but still stupid), that airport incident, and of course missing a meeting on the West Coast which supposedly really pissed off some of his teammates (who were already pissed at him for his terrible play on the field). If Geno goes in other words not many of us are going to miss him. Why should we. But as far as on the field it would be stupid to get rid of him right now. Because he at least has the NFL skills to be a backup and might just fill that role this season.
I'm so sick of Jason cole. He always has the juiciest, most speculative headlines from his "inside sources" and then you always forget about them before they don't come true.
Whether he is right or not the handwriting is on the wall . Geno will get a job somewhere as a NFL backup, earn a decent paycheck for just playing football. Every kids dream come true. But please, put someone good under center for our Jets. Let the losing end now.
Don't give 2 sh#ts about the article but I'm all for Mac & Bow creating a viable qb competition between Geno, FitzP, a qb draft choice - slash- vet via trade & even Simms.
He does have a short memory how else could he continue with the same mistakes time after time. And his downfall is his own doing.
