1st: Amari Cooper WR Alabama: I would love for Cooper to be there at 6. I don't see Mariota falling but if he does, I feel that Mariota will probably be the selection. The Jets have only drafted 2 WR's in the 1st round in the last 20 years. Santana Moss and Keyshawn Johnson. The Jets haven't drafted offensive in round 1 for the last 6 drafts. Its about time that trend changes. Cooper is the most experienced and pro ready WR coming out. He can play all over the field and having Marshall as a mentor will do great things for him 2nd: Eli Harold DE/OLB Virginia: Harold is a freak. He's mean, tough and has a knack for getting to the ball carrier, whether that be QB or RB. He isn't the purest pass rusher and ranks behind some of those that specialize in getting to the QB. I like Nate Orchard a lot and I would be happy with either. We need a playmaker like Harold coming from the OLB position. My only gripe is he seems to be very raw in coverage. Again, like Cooper there are a lot of veterans on the defense that can help this kid out. Pace and Babin a long with Bowles should help him develop. 3rd: Garrett Grayson QB Colorado State: I like Grayson, he's got a good demeanor and seems very receptive. We should by no means force him into a starting role anytime soon. However, a year or two should do him some good. Grayson has a more than decent arm with good accuracy. Throwing in the NY weather shouldn't be a problem. Didn't play against top competition but he has a lot of potential. There are no sure fire day 1 starters we realistically have a shot at without trading up. Geno and Fitz will be serviceable this year. Who knows Geno is still very young. We simply cannot write him off yet. Let Grayson sit and see what he can do down the road. He's rising up boards and I don't see Petty lasting to this pick. 4th: Jamon Brown OG Louisville: Brown is an interesting prospect. He has a lot of versatility, and has played both G and T. We need some help at guard and Brown is a good fit. Brown is very quick for his size and he is someone that isn't afraid to be that mauler. He's strong at the point of attack and is a tough obstacle to get around. If he is available in the 4th it is almost a no brainer to select him. For his size he is one quick dude, that is something we will need in Gailey's offense.
eli harold has 0 chance of being there in the 2nd. don't be surprised if hes the pick that goes a lot earlier than people expect
Beginning to think that Sean Mannion might be worth a shot in the 2nd or 3rd. I don't think he'll last longer than that. He had a terrible team behind him and lost his best receiver in Brandin Cook. Might be worth a pick.
IMO that'd be like throwing away a pick that could be used for a RB or WR or a G in either of those rounds. I don't think he's good at all and will not amount to anything in the NFL. He reminds me of Kellen Clemens with a weaker arm. _
I would have no problem taking someone like Grayson if we had last years draft picks. So many picks that you can blow one on a chance that Grayson becomes the guy. But we only have 6 picks this year, and two of them are 7th's lol. At least three of them have to contribute and become productive members of the team. Honestly if the option presented itself I would look long and hard at trading back, it would be nice to recoup the picks we traded away.
I definitely agree. There could be much better value in the 3rd. It is something we will definitely look at. I just don't see a prospect worth taking that will still be on the board after round 3 for QB. We haven't had much luck in 3rd for a while.
Agree on Grayson, might as well forfeit the pick. It would make more sense to use that pick to trade up from 6 and take one of the only two worthy QB's.
Either take Mariota or no Qb. Although ESPN did a sports science thing on Hundley and said he is the most accurate Qb in the draft. I saw him play and he isn't.
If we landed Cooper and Harold in first two rounds, i'd be thrilled! that said, i can't see Harold lasting that long. He's a first round talent. someone like Owamagbe Odighizuwa is more likely to be available (reminds me a little of Calvin Pace). would prefer a RB in round 3, as some good ones will still be there. Brown is interesting in the 4th..
Carden had that nice hang-on-at-the-end early season win vs. the Hokies last year but facing NFL-sized DL's he's going to have his work cut out for him given his somewhat funky throwing motion. jmo.
