Tanking is cool for fan talk and what not but it will never happen when 53 guys are competing for jobs and bonuses and coaches are coaching for their jobs. This isn't the NBA or NHL where the trade deadline is so late you trade everyone for draft picks ensuring that you suck enough to get a great pick. I cheered to lose as a fan but no team in the NFL will intentionally tank, whether the GM/Owner wants to is different but it won't matter.
I saw Ishtar in the theater as a child. It was the first film I can remember seeing where I realized "this is bad" and "something about this film is WRONG." I can't even remember if that film was supposed to be a comedy or what. There was absolutely nobody laughing. It was like the audience had just seen a tear jerker. There was just the dead air of silence. A catharsis.
This thread is retarded. I don't usually post useless posts like this, really, but this is just stupid. I could not refrain.
Complaining about the sixth pick not being good enough? Jesus. 2014 - Jake Matthews 2013 - Barkevious Mingo 2012 - Morris Claiborne 2011 - Julio Jones 2010 - Russell Okung 2009 - Andre Smith Pretty decent group overall. There will be Superstar level talent at 6.
I have never agreed with one of your posts more than this one. The first TWO pints in London are on me. _
And like I said on the first page, how many turds have been drafted 1-5, with people drafted 6 and higher turning out to be MUCH better pros? If Mariota was an Andrew Luck type "can't miss" QB prospect then I would agree we should have done anything to get that top pick. He's not.
You're right; they could be better. Also, Marsha, Marsha, Marsha…Luck, Luck, Luck. Is Luck some new measurable like QBR? Do we need to now update the 26-27-60 (Wonderlic-Collegiate Starts-COMP%) Rule to the 26-27-60-Luck Rule.
I'm not the biggest Luck fan but he was about the biggest can't miss product the NFL has ever seen. I don't really remember the hype that Peyton received in 98 but I can't imagine it was anymore than Luck. If there was one QB with Winstons ability and Mariota's personality I think that player could be good. But both of these guys are missing something big. Good thing it'll be up to another team to figure that out.
It's kind of baffling to me that people have their panties in a bunch because we didn't lose two more games in order to draft a guy who has never played in a pro offense. I'm not saying I don't want him, I'm saying it's stupid to act like he's a lock to be a top tier QB in the NFL.
I just think saying a QB prospect is not Luck as if it's some kind a negative is hilarious. So what? Maybe said QB is the next Rodgers.
OP is 100% correct. There is no point in referencing past #6 picks, busts at 2, which players are available from year to year, etc. that means nothing. There is no debating that the higher the pick , the better shape you are in. Even if you ultimately select the same person, u have more trade bait, u control your own destiny to a much larger degree, etc. now whether a team can pull off the tank from the head coach to the 53 man roster is entirely different, but the Franchise as a whole is 100% in a better position by tanking in said scenario
