Three down backs don't exist anymore.

Would not be shocked to see his role expand given his skill-set. That is, if he gets and stays healthy.

My problem with Ridley is he not a 3rd down back that can catch passes out of the backfield. With such a strong RB class I was hoping we could add a RB in the draft. Hopefully he came cheap. It's only a one year deal so I guess that does not stop us from drafting a RB but just gives us more flexibility in the draft.

IMO this doesn't take an RB off the table in the draft. If it's for less than 1M yr with little guarantees I like it, because the guy can play. But much more and I have questions about it. As of now, it's the most surprising 2nd-wave signing

I just don't understand this move. Not the kind of RB i thought we'd be looking for. Our offense is sooo slow!

What we need(ed), is a speedy back, a reception back. He is neither of those things. With it being a 1 year deal, I'm sure money won't be an issue though, and I could still seeing the team draft a RB on day 2. I'm happy with the move, but not jumping for joy.

    >> MT @RapSheet: Ridley had offers from Redskins & Dolphins, among others. 1 reason for his call: Opportunity in Chan Gailey’s offense

    Lmaoooo:

Just wait until we win a Superbowl together. And walk in the park together. And hold hands, and kiss underneath a cherry tree. Then we'll make sweet sweet love under the bright moon, and he'll say "Oh Tom, I love you so much", and we'll be like "Tom? Tom? What the fuck Stevan, you're with me!!". And we go through a hard break-up and he comes running back to the Pats. Or something.

Seems to me, Ivory is destined to be under-utilized his entire career.

Ridley has fumbled 9 times since 2011 (649 attempts). Same as Blount (503 attempts). Lynch has 16 (1181 att) Jamaal Charles has 15 (762 att)

Seems to be a little overblown to me. Plus not every fumble is a lost fumble.

So is this a depth signing or does it mean a split carry situation

If Ridley is up to speed and healthy, I predict split carry. None are explosive catching the football, so you can draft a good pass catching back in the draft that can get you some yards running the ball.

I think the Jets oddly keep 4 running backs on the roster, not too sure Bohanon makes the final roster. This offense smells spread all over and no fullback fits a spread offense all that much.

I love Ivory, but the guy does get hurt more than you think. Ridley is good insurance if ivory goes down. They are similar players as well and we would not have to change offensive game plan. Depth Depth Depth

My take from reading comments abt Ridley is that both are between the tackle runners Ivory has more banging and plowing style whereas Ridley is a little more gliding and shifty. Not like I paid a ton of attention but he never seemed like that to me, just seemed like a straight ahead plug n play guy. But it could be a decent tag team. Two good points I read are we'll see how he does coming of the ACL and behind a not hall of fame QB.
