Great post. I feel the same. Thought there would be an opportunity out there for him to start. I will take it though as it makes the D-Line even stronger. Also, no reason to deal Wilkerson as some stated the Jets may do on draft day. He is a beast and with the franchise tag, the Jets have 2 more years technically to get a long term deal worked out.
agree with you on both Douz and Wilk. i don't necessarily think they'd trade Wilk, nor do i want to. have to admit its a possibility tho..... if they truly are into Mariota, and are not confident in re-signing Wilk on their terms... it could put trade talks in play. Tenn, if they are interested in Williams, could get a proven top commodity in Wilk instead, as well as another high pick overall to use elsewhere, like WR. Wilk + our 6th for Tennessee's 2nd? it's possible..
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ YUP, Titans are running a 4-3 with some mixture of 3-4. If everyone involved in the decision making believes Mariotta is a franchise qb, then how about trying to trade Mo to the titans for the 2nd pick? Then at 6, draft White or Cooper? Even if we have to sweeten the deal a little, it might be worth it. Mo is also due a huge contract next year. Thoughts? footballfundamentals, Mar 19, 2015
Titans may take Mariotta or Winston themselves..if not they would want at LEASE Wilk and the 6th pick to even open up the conversation.
NO. First no on Mariota, then no on Cooper and especially no on trading Wilkerson. That would be weakening 2 positions before the season ever starts. Mariota won't play this year and who is going to replace Wilkerson? We just reloaded the defense and secondary and now you want Revis and Cromartie staying in coverage forever because they have no one to get to the QB. Counter productive.
Some people think Coples would move to DE to replace Mo. I don't think that's all that great of an idea especially since he shed 20lbs last season to move outside and would have to bulk up again to move inside, plus I don't think he'd be nearly as effective as Mo is, plus he's not versatile at all, Mo can move all over the line and play well
Proven stud + high pick for ONE stinking draft pick? You are kidding, right? ========================================= I just don't get this fascination to deal a proven commodity in favor of unproven prospect.
I don't know what Rex was thinking when he made Coples move to OLB. I mean if you want a OLB draft one. The Jets are not good at converting players. Dan Alexander was the most successful in Jets history. Drafted as a DE he was converted to Guard and was good for many year. Now I don't know what Bowles will do with Coples but I know they need to lock up Wilkerson.
Brandon Moore is another one. Converted from DT to guard, and was successful for years (part of the 2009-2010 AFC championship game runs).
Is my perception skewed... or is this new front office just gettin' shit done? Last year it seemed like we were sitting around with our thumb up our ass.
Lol @ people thinking it's possible and simply the fact they're discussing Wilkerson to Tennesee for the #2 pick in a Leger Douzable thread.
I'm very surprised there wasn't more interest on the open market. He gets a good push when he's in there albeit in a backup role. Glad we resigned him as it definitely gives us insurance depending on what Mo does or what we do with him.
They sure are and I'm glad. Idzik was in a coma for 2 years and our play on the field reflected it. He signed free agents who didn't even make it through training camp. 20 draft picks in 2 years and only 2 of them Richardson and Amaro showed anything.
