The guy could barely speak, cop's arm was around his neck. Again for him to be doing that because he was selling cigs which was why the confrontation began in the first place. I'm honestly done with that particular discussion.

Why do you keep saying that he got put in a "chokehold" for selling cigarettes as if they just walked up and immediately did that. Even you are being disingenuous in your posts.

If you don't agree with how they handled it then fine, and at least you would have a point. But when you ignore the fact that he was acting aggressively and failed to comply it makes it seem dishonest.

He could have been using an easy bake oven and ended up in a chokehold if there were events in between that escalated things.

The cops barely even tried to cuff him along with telling him his rights which I believe is how it's suppose to go, he wasn't hitting them anything to warrant that action.

I don't agree with how they handled it. Maybe they were intimidated. I've seen far worse acts of aggression to cops and none ended up getting put in that choke-hold.

the man was resisting arrest and he was at least 350 lbs. force is needed, all he had to do was give himself up and he's alive today.

Lol they don't have to read you the miranda rights when they arrest you.

It was a big dude. You don't have to be hitting them to be taken down by force.

So I just went to this site and I am pretty underwhelmed. The first thing that struck me is this line on the front page: On August 9, 2014, Michael Brown Jr. was murdered by Officer Darren Wilson

For a site that claims to present facts, they are off to a rocky start.

Additionally all the statistics on the front page are about as meaningless as the ones on the graph. Like this one:

Police killed at least 16 more black people in 2014 than in 2012, an increase of 5%

Ok so a lot of things weird here. Why are they saying 16 more in 2014 than 2012 instead of 2013? I don't have 2013 statistics but it seems suspicious and leaves me to wonder if maybe the statistics were higher in 2013. Also, if 16 more in the whole nation is 5% then that means the numbers are subject to a high degree of variance that can lead to no meaningful conclusion.

Ahhh and we get to the people who made the site. Basically 3 protestors who only put their twitter handles out there. 3 people with an obvious bias/agenda if you read their bios.

We can do a lot better than this site if we really want to understand this issue.

"I can't breathe", multiple times, is barely speaking? The fact he could say anything shows it was not a choke hold.
Saying it began because he was illegally selling cigs is just ignorant. Had he complied with the officer instead of resisting this would have never happened and he would most probably still be alive.

So they were intimidated, which is exactly what I said, I don't see him swinging off on people hitting them. Again, I guess we are just making assumptions. Now, if he actually HIT him then, yes I would understand this point of view.

Honestly, if he were to hit one of my men, I would go right for the knee and take him down, there was like 5 or 6 guys there. I think the hold was place on him too long.

Those guys do not have agendas, if anything there agendas are to show the corruption in the police force. I am sure they are accepting enhancement requests.

Hold was placed too long, could have done a better job. Now we are reaching because he's big and intimidating.

    OK.

You started off saying he didn't hit them. Clearly that isn't a requirement for police to use force. Now you are jumping to the fact that it was held too long. Maybe you're right but that wasn't what I responded to

I am just thinking of what I would do in the situation, if I was a cop.

I think as a cop you need to use your best judgement [which I believe is in every police manual], and that video does not suggest best judgement was used. I think the hold could have been avoided all-together. Anyway to keep the man alive and do your job the correct way.

2 cops a few days later were killed execution style in NY, better judgement may have saved a total of 3 lives.

thought I'd chime in on this. I've done Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over a decade. Half of the sport is the art of choking people.

This type of choke is called a rear naked choke. The intention of this choke is to cut off the blood supply on either side of the neck.At the moment captured in this picture we can easily see the technique is poor. The officers left elbow would need the be directly under the mans chin in order to apply this choke correctly. At the moment of this picture it is far off to the left. This creates a sizable space on the left side of the neck that would allow bloodflow. This space is viewable in the picture.

It is still possible to choke somebody with poor technique but the force required would be immensely greater. It is possible that enough pressure is placed on the trachea to cut off air supply. It would be improbable to finish someone this way if they were resisting.

If in fact the victim was able to talk then he was not being choked because his air supply is not cut off.

People that are not accustomed to being choked are far easier to choke out. They may even panic and stop breathing because they feel like they are being choked.

My conclusion from this picture is that nothing concrete can be said either way.

    That said, fuck tha police.

You can barely hear him, and the voice faints as time goes on.

Go back and watch the video, what are they initially talking about? Again, now you are justifying killing a man because he was selling cigs on the street. Again, there was a better way to go about this issue.

Go for the knees, take him down, cuff him.

    all very true..

also he was a fat man too. If you have your arms around a fat man and he's screaming he can't breathe, chances are he can't breathe and you are in fact choking him.

I'm not a brazilian jiu jitsu expert but my wife and maybe my doctor will say I am a fat man so I can offer that perspective for what its worth.

And once again you you for the ridiculous assumption. No one ever even implied that it is justified to kill a man for selling cigarettes. They were justified in taking him down for resisting arrest after being suspect in an illegal activity.
His poor health was the biggest contributing factor in his death.

I'll also add that a bloodchoke if applied correctly will almost immediately cause loss of consciousness. However, if the choke is a little off it may still cause loss of consciousness but may take up to a few minutes. I didn't watch the video but this would be consistent with his voice trailing off. Again, the picture itself is inconclusive because a case could be made that he was just holding him.

It doesn't have to get to that point. That man could have been saved and that all could have been avoided. Like I said few days later 2 cops were killed execution style, so all of this led to 3 people dying. Over cigs.

The fact that we are arguing about the guy being a choke-hold or not to justify this issue, to me something about that bothers me.

Maybe, I am not seeing something.

what led to the cops being executed was the misinformation of these cases spurring a lunatic to wage war on the police b/c they were all racist.
