Once again, that is NOT what I said: I am pissed off that he has failed to make the Sweet 16 in SIX YEARS, despite a 2-seed AND a TWO 1-Seeds in the NCAA Tournament. If Roy or even Dean Almighty Smith EVER had that on his resume at UNC, you would be the first one calling for their jobs.
you can keep saying that but it's not true. don't lump me in w/ you. Dean went from 1983-1990 as a high seed in most tourneys w/o reaching a FF, those were the years I became a Carolina fan, I never saw a FF until 1991. Obviously they became regulars after that but the point is that stretch was more frustrating than what 'Nova has been through recently. I am not one to call for the jobs of other people. I may whine, I may get annoyed but I'm not putting in the work the players and coaches are and it hurts a lot more for them than for some dopey fan.
Again, that is Not what I said. I did NOT say Final four appearances: I SAID SWEET SIXTEEN Appearances. I am pissed off that he has failed to make the Sweet 16 in SIX YEARS, despite a 2-seed AND a TWO 1-Seeds in the NCAA Tournament. If Roy or even Dean Almighty Smith EVER had that on his resume at UNC, you would be the first one calling for their jobs.
FFs for Carolina are like Sweet 16's for 'Nova. I would not be calling for their jobs under any circumstances.
Final Fours mean the exact same thing to any program across the country. Period. You arrogance only reinforces my point: If Roy or even Dean Almighty Smith EVER went 6 years at UNC, without a sweet 16 appearance, you would be the first one calling for their jobs.
you can keep saying it but it doesn't make it true. Look through my post history on here. did I call for Doherty's job? have I called for Roy's job? did I call for Torre's job? Girardi? Herm? Mangini? Rex? that's not what I do. I support the people in place, I may not always be happy but I wanted all of them to succeed. I didn't waste energy on negative garbage.
[QUOTE="nyjunc, post: 3228438, member: 34" Look through my post history on here. did I call for Doherty's job? have I called for Roy's job?[/QUOTE] Did EITHER of them go SIX years without making a Sweet 16 for UNC?
a S16 at 'Nova is like a FF app at UNC. went longer w/o FF app and you continue to ignore reality. I don't call for coaches to be fired. the Jets have been worse than 'Nova- have you seen me call for a HC or GM to lose their job?
how many Sweet 16s was 'Nova making pre-Wright? 1989-2001 pre Wright they didn't make a single Sweet 16, they also missed SEVEN Tourneys. He has elevated that program to a consistency never seen before in their history.
has nothing to do w/ this discussion, in other sports my teams have been much worse than 'Nova and I have never called for any to be fired. and again, 'Nova missing that many Sweet 16s is somewhat equivalent to Carolina missing 6 straight FFs.
According to Ken Pomeroy's ratings, there hasn't been a team close to this Kentucky team since 07-08 Kansas. 06-07 Florida was also comparable. He's been doing ratings since 2002 and this year's Kentucky team had the highest rating of any team. I think UK would've handled Duke.
2009 Carolina was the best team since UK 1996 and no team has dominated the tourney like that Carolina team did in recent memory.
in terms of stats this was an all time great team any of the mathematical systems will say that and the betting odds (which admittedly are largely based off the math) had UK as a 4.5 or 5 point favorite over Wisconsin. Basically, Kentucky would've been at least a 4 point favorite against any other team in the country. 11 point favorites against Notre Dame and Notre Dame was a top 15 team. The fact that they didn't win it all means that historically they won't go down on the list of the talked about teams, but they were the best Calipari Kentucky team, and that's saying a lot.
