QBs were more babied back then?! They didn't have nearly the number of rules "babying " a QB back then that they have now. Seriously, are you purposefully offering false information or is it a repetitive accident?
he's #1,2 in all those categories b/c he played more games- no other reason. Using that logic I guess Vinny Testaverde is better than Joe Montana, Unitas, Fouts, Kelly, Young, Dawson, etc...
just imagine how big of a game Walker would've had if he had a real QB like Pat Ryan or Mark Sanchez throwing him the ball that day
he won a playoff game w/ Pat Ryan as his QB later that year then lost one when Ken came into play. THIS is exactly why Jet fans are the worst, bash the guys that helped us win and praise the guy that didn't as if a great performance in Sept against an awful D is more important than how they play in January.
This is just a hate thread. Pretty sad for those with nothing better to do, daily, but hate on a Jets QB who took a lot of hits and provided a lot of great memories for his team's REAL fans.
I was paraphrasing another poster for goofs. Of COURSE QBs are more babied now. QBs got CRUSHED back in Kenny's day. He was a tough SOB--would have thrived in todays pussification league. _
He played in an era where you could beat the crap out of receivers. I could imagine his #s being much better if Namath were healthy (and more consistent). Dude indeed was a great player. He some great seasons. And they say receivers can't help you win a SB ...
Don't get ahead of yourself there. You're still wrong in that other thread--I forget which one--but you are _
You agreed with me...proving a broken clock (you) can be right twice a day. I read you this way: you post provocative opinions for their shock value. You really don't care if they are accurate or not and certainly aren't going to "waste" time critically thinking about them.
No no no you have me wrong. When I'm talking about QBs and drafting and college prospects and lasagna and bald eagles I'm 100% committed to my positions. This thread is just shits and giggles and anything I've said negative about any ex-Jet is just a doppelganger. Kenny was one of the All-Time Jet greats. Not a great QB by NFL standards--but clearly by Jets standards. Anyone who disagrees is not a real fan. _
eeeh wrong. Kelly and Thomas were there for most of the period of O'Brien, not 'much later'. Kelly started with the Bills in 86, and Thurman joined in 88. so if 4 years after O'brien came in tot he league is 'much' later then yeah, but nope. Hector was over rated. I watched him as an adult, not a kid. Wesley walker could have been amazing if he'd had two eyes, the fact he did as well as he did with only one eye was amazing (he was legally blind in the other eye). but that condition also led to a lot of drops and him not being able to adjust to the ball if it was more to the blind side. I to this day truly believe he would have been better than Rice if he'd had two good eyes, but he didn't and as a result he missed a lot of balls. So while he was a great game breaker he wasn't reliable as a reciever either. Schuler is vastly over rated, he was good but he wasn't top top 10 good. He was solid and not a liability but he wasn't very good at getting separation either. Toon was probably the best reciever but he was often double covered and wasn't the most elusive receiver. Couple that with a very poor offensive line and a head coach in Walton who didn't design plays to be quick routes and you get a lot of sacks. Walton was a very inconsistent coach and OC and often was calling the wrong plays at the wrong times. This wasn't just a Jets problem since when fired from the Jets he went to the Steelers as their OC and is generally regarded as one of the worst OC's in that franchises history and was the last OC of Noll's career and he'd been a lack luster OC with the Redskins before joining the Jets. Walton was known for running a very complex offense with complicated routes that took time to develop, this can be illustrated by his time with the Redskins and the Steelers. While it is true that O'Brien did hold the ball a long time compared to other QB's how much of that time was due to the system in place? I would say a fairly good part of it since that same pattern of long QB hold times also existed when Walton was the OC of the Redskins and the OC of the Steelers.
I agree mostly, but this is not true. Hector was properly rated. He was not as good as McNeil but those two were as good as Tomlinson and Jones. Hector was tough. McNeil more elusive. Hector more durable.
Have you ever wondered how great Walker could have been if he hadn't been blind in one eye? I'm completely convinced he would have been one of the best NFL receivers of all time and that a lot of his drops were the result of balls just outside of his limited field of vision. He's my 2nd favorite Jets receiver of all time, right behind "Sunshine" Don Maynard.
By over rated I'm referring to Junc's view on him. Hector was good as long as mcNeil was on the field but when McNeil wasn't available Hector couldn't shoulder it. Hector was a good 2nd back, and if McNeil hadn't had all the injury problems I'd consider Hector one of the best #2 backs, but with things as they were with the Jets he's over rated by many because they remember what he did when McNeiel was healthy but forget how bad he was when McNeil wasn't healthy. Hence the over rated comment.
