Exactly. But that's what passes for discourse these days.

With all the credit Joe Namath gets, how good was Don Maynard?

where have I said that game was all his fault?

so it's Carters fault for not bumping but not O'Brien's fault for throwing the INT that led to the go ahead TD? they were trailing 13-7 when O'Brien got hurt. could he have done something in the 2nd half? sure but all we can do is go on what he did and he never helped a team win a playoff game.

You claim to be trolling. I compared the two QBs to explain that most Ken O'Brien fans recognize his limitations. They just kinda like him even if he's not perfect.

All too often, Jets "fans" are really just trolls: people looking to denigrate a player or the team. They harp on a player's negatives and belittle a player's fans.

From the NY Times report of that game:

The Jets played most of the second half without Ken O'Brien, the league's top-rated quarterback whom teammates had voted the most valuable Jet. O'Brien suffered a concussion in the first half when he was hit by Andre Tippett as he was passing. He had been sacked twice earlier. None of the league-record 62 sacks that O'Brien suffered during the regular season had been able to knock him out of a game. Tippett's hit was not even recorded as a sack.

In case U R unaware my fandom goes back to the time the NYJs won SB 3 (I was adult at that time) so I saw them at the very, very, very top of the FB world. Beginning with the 70 season & continuing right up to this moment they became LOSERS which is the reason for the . I wish U & every active poster would finally once & for all get it where I am coming from. BTW in case U R interested this is my 50th year of having STH so I hope U can now understand my  & calling them the NYJs shits for being losers for the last 46 years:mad:

Wins and losses are a team stat, though the 91 loss you can pretty much put on him with the 3 picks. in a 17-10 loss. the other twos losses were very much medicore games, but the same type of games you've praised Sanchez for 'winning' in the past. Like I said, wins and losses are pretty much a team stat and a poor choice to judge a single player by. Did he play well in his 3 playoff games? nope, but in two of the 3 he didn't play poor enough to be the sole reason for losing either.

As far as a loaded team? Well the best running back, by far, was McNeil. I always loved McNeil but he was always off the field with an injury more than he was on it. When he was on the field he was dynamite but he only had 1 season with more than 229 carries, and only 4 seasons with at least 200.

At WR you had Walker, who was a very good deep threat but also had a lot of drops (I loved walker, great home run hitter but he also struck out a lot with drops).
You had Toon of course, a good possession receiver but was never a game changer.
and of course Schuler, who was like Toon a decent possession receiver but he didn't scare defenses either.

and then we get to the O-line who, aside from Sweeney and Fields, were nobodies and never was. it was neither a good pass blocking line nor a good run blocking line, aside from the aforementioned center/guard.

Throw on top of that a coach in Walton who often threw more than he should have and never built a good offensive line.

now the defense of that time period was a different matter. They had a top of the line D-line, a very good LB corp, but the secondary was suspect but functional.

But as far as calling it a loaded team? maybe in jets terms, but not even close in league terms.

As far as the 'weak' era in AFC football, he played in the same division as 2 of the leagues best QB's (Marino and Kelly). The Bills were a very good football team that just couldn't stand up to the NFC's smashmouth football of the period. And while Marino and the Dolphins never had much playoff success they were always a dangerous team if you couldn't cover their recievers. But the Bills between Kelly and Thomas were a very very good football team.

can't put everyone in(some of those guys will make it) but when you are the 2nd best QB and an "all time great Jet" you should be in, right?

Outside of Woodall and Robinson every other player you mentioned played in at least one playoff win.

had a great 1985 regular season. 25 TDs to 8 INTs in the reg season then in one half in a home playoff game threw a costly pick I just 17 attempts.

ken o brien did plenty of great things for charity over the years as well. Only classless Jets fans would tear down a great man like that

I don't praise Mark for "winning" games, I praise him for helping us to win big games b/c if he didn't play as well as he did we would have had no chance.

McNeil and Hector were an outstanding duo
Walker, Toon and Shuler- not many teams were better

this was a young team that had made 2 straight postseasons and made a title game in the pre salary cap/FA era. they were a franchise on the rise loaded w/ young talent on both sides of the ball.

The AFC was humiliated annually in the SB. the AFC was mediocre at best, some great QBs w/o great teams around them.

Kelly and Thomas and co. came around much later. the talent level was drained by the late 80s/early 90s when Buf rose to power.
