Please refresh my memory. And how did the addition of Decker, Amaro, Harvin and Johnson help the 2013 8-8 Jets????
I'm sorry for not engaging with your question more seriously, but if you really think that the addition of Decker was a bad move, or the drafting of Amaro was wrong, I'm not really sure I can add much to this discussion. Do you remember our starting WRs from 2013? By the way, just in case you wan't to know, our total offensive yards, our total passing yards, and our total rushing yards all increased from 2013 to 2014. If you don't believe me... http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nyj/2013.htm and http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nyj/2014.htm Plus we had a much tougher schedule.
Not saying theses additions were bad moves and I'm not saying adding weapons is a bad thing. I'm saying they didn't help. The reason they didn't help was because we had a bad QB which you previously acknowledged. Therefore, since additional weapons for Geno resulted in a worse record from the previous year, the question becomes how to go forward? Do we keep adding weapons or replace the QB? All I'm saying is it makes more sense to me to go in the other direction and replace the QB with a 1st round talent in this upcoming draft, if possible.
The Truth is that this new GM and Coach play things very close to the vest. You really don't hear anything out of the Jets until after the deal is done (with the exception of Revis). To be honest, I kinda like this new approach and to be totally honest, I really cannot argue with any of the moves this staff has made so far. Could this opinion change in the future? Possibly. For now, I will trust the teams brain trust until such a time when they show me that they cannot be trusted. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy the ride.
Mariota Cooper Scherff That's who I want at 6 in that order based on availability. We do not have to pick defense in the first round every year.
I'm just laughing out loud as to those thinking the Jets will draft MM at 6, just because they have to find a franchise QB and ignore all the veteran signings this off-season to bolster the weaknesses at WR and CB. Why did the Jets bother with these acquisitions? Really? The Jets brought in a Revis, Cromartie and Marshall to name a few among all the other veterans to lay their hopes on a non-proven rookie QB to lead them to another 6-8 or 4-12 season? They really want to take that #6 pick and put it on a player that will have little to no presence (let alone impact) to a team that is looking to be competitive enough to make, at the least, a wild card appearance? If you you all think Bowles and Mac would be crazy enough to waste that pick passing up the opportunity to get an immediate impact player, then you are deserving Jets fans looking for another losing /mediocre season.
Where else do we need to "bolster our weaknesses?" Hmmmm would you admit QB?? I guess you would be content with "impact players" like Pryor or Amaro. Fowler Cooper White another defensive addition. Why ?? Same old selections, Same old Mediocrity Same old Jets.
You don't know that, so quit acting like you do. Mariota could surprise everyone and start day 1. Besides, you don't draft for just the present year. That's dumb. You draft for the future, including the current year if possible, but with a QB, the important thing is getting one with talent and real potential. It hasn't been so long that very few rookies started with the better teams in the NFL. They had solid teams with good depth, and a number of their their draft picks would often sit for a year or two before playing. It's only been within the last couple of years where most teams started forcing their rookie QBs onto the field. In the past, teams would sign a veteran stop gap QB to play while the rookie learned on the bench. The dumbest reason I've seen on this board is to not take Mariota because he might not be able to play day one and not help the Jets this year.
He doesn't NEED a year. But it would do him good. I don't think he's fragile-minded but I don't know. Our line is okay, which is enough for me to say throw him in the fire. But for example, I think David Carr had potential, a lot of it, and he was ruined by that offensive line. He's probably still having nightmares about defenses. I just hope if this team has a chance to draft Mariota, we don't screw it up or over think it. Whether he pans out or not, he does have superstar potential, and we need a shot in the arm at the QB position.
We need more than a shot in the arm! We need a dismemberment lol The D and weapons Mac has assembled are in win now mode! Geno is in never win mode...
Let's be clear. The reason why Amaro didn't make such a great impact had more to do with Smith's poor field judgement and less on Amaro's abilities. Using both Amaro and Pryor as arguments towards questionable impact players is lame. Pryor played out of position all season. I'll hold off on making snap judgements on these or any new drafted players before I see what this new regime has in store for these players. I never liked the Jets picking up G. Smith and dumping Sanchez. We've seen the struggles a team goes thru with 'wet behind the ear' QB's. Something tells me Bolwes & co. like Geno and are looking to work with what they have.
The coaching staff per Bowles and Mac will evaluate all players and use them as they see fit. There is no allegiance to any player like last years fiasco. Whatever is telling you that they like Smith is not reading the papers where last week they said they want to add a QB. Bowles will hope for the best with Fitz and Geno but Mac will prepare for the worst by getting MM. This is the best strategy long term.
The only franchiseesques QB in this draft is Winston. The guy only lost 1 game in 2 years. I don't think Tampa Bay is trading that pick. They are doing their due diligence and checkig this guy out right up till the draft.
