Just amazing how a culture that purports to respect all cultures and religions takes every opportunity to trample on those very things to serve their ends. The Black Hills of ND comes to mind immediately. If the location is sacred, no telescope of any kind should be put there without permission of the culture that the land is sacred to. Its that simple.

Not only is it sacred land, it's conservation land. Development on conservation land is illegal, yet the state is still allowing this to happen. Corruption, money, and greed. Not to mention the environmental impact this will have on the island.

I'm going to need to see pics of some bikini clad suntan models to feign indignance.

Is there some reason this couldn't be built on top of Mt. Whogivesashit somewhere in West Virginia?

Less "Light Pollution" in the higher altitudes of Hawaii makes them prime real estate for Telescopes. Makes Northern Alaska or Antartica good options doesn't it.
