You are a guest at a wedding, and you have to choose between a perfect cut of steak or a perfect lobster as your main course. Which do you choose?
I can't. Lobster at a function house has to be awfully rubbery and I've been down on steak houses lately. You order medium rare and it comes out blue. I'm going with the wedge salad with the Stilton dressing, red onions and lots of crispy bacon. I'm also loading up on appetizers during the cocktail hour. Pot stickers YEAH BABY!!! _
You would've liked mine. No main course, just constant changes of dishes. There were at least 20 different over 5-6 hours, before the dessert.
I don't really like lobster. I may be the only person on earth who feels that way, I know. I love crab though, lobster is like too sweet or something.
Lobster is basically a large aquatic bug. A big mess if its done right, and even then, other than the claws the meat is pretty shitty. I live in New England I know what I'm talking about. For a formal occasion, its not even close, you go with a nice steak. Just about any other time as well. The only proper way to enjoy lobster is in an outdoor picnic style setting wearing comfy clothes and with a healthy supply of cold beer. Some Allman Bros. on the hi-fi. I just described my own wedding.
I'm a fan of both. Lobster only if its baked and stuffed with crab meat. Can't handle the green shit that passes for innards on a Lobster. My problem with steak is that not everyone knows how to cook one. Especially in a setting like a wedding reception as its more about speed than quality. Its much easier to fck up a steak than it is a Lobster. Sizzling on a plate just means that the Steak hasn't rested properly and how often do you get a sizzling steak at a wedding reception unless its a Fajita. Since we can assume that the wedding party didn't hire Pete Lugers to do the catering, Steaks can be iffy. Just as Lobster could be.
A few years ago I would have said lobster but after living in Vegas and eating out at some really nice steak houses I'm going with a nice steak. There are so many to pick as well, I love my seafood but if a steak is done right it just melts in your mouth. I ate at Bobby Flay's and it was like butter.
Some of the best memories of eating steak usually came with it sizzling on the plate (can't say it was good) but man nothing like hitting a coffee shop in Vegas at 3AM after needing some food to sober up after a night of drinking. Those 2.99 steaks were something.
I remember those cheap steaks on 34th st. I think the name was Tad's. They got the job done certainly but that was back when I didn't know the difference. Usually with the munchies too so I really didn't care either..
Man I found this place when I was in Omaha that was a brew pub called Capital Cities, the steak was so good I ate all 4 nights I was there, place was closed on the 5th so I decided to eat at the hotel restaurant which wasn't nearly as good and twice as much.
