Don't know if I agree on Lanford, but agree on Petty. People worry about Mariota and I get that, but this guy is on a whole 'nother level in terms of not being NFL ready. I'd take Grayson, played in a pro style offense but without pro level receivers.
Jeez ESPN is a joke. Isnt it supposed to be a sit down analyzing his game? Instead we get 3 minutes talking about how he lost his footing on a play, and 10 seconds of "you should throw more." I would love to see him put in the same situation Gruden put Mariota in, where he explains how the play is broken down.
Being NFL ready becomes a less serious problem when you plan on sitting your guy from the start. Mariota at 6 is expected to play sometime this season, even moreso if Geno and Fitz play like bums. We know Petty has work to do, but he's got great arm talent and production (in two years in a funky system, yes, but great production none the less). He's a developmental pick. If he can do work from under center, learn the new offense and work through his reads by year two or three he looks like a guy you can take a shot on as a starter. I also like Grayson, he's one of the more pro ready QBs in the draft, but he's kind of decent floor decent ceiling kind of guy. I wouldn't mind taking gim because he could certainly prove me wrong. I like hia game none the less. Also, he had one of the best receivers in colcollege, so that part is plain wrong. Grayson to Higgins was one of the best combos in CFB. That guy is going to be a stud.
Watched a lot of Petty's tape on Draft Breakdown (link here), and I see why people like the guy. Unfortunately, like Mariota, the scheme that he's been asked to run has hurt his stock. If you compare Petty's games with Griffin's (link here), you see that in the majority of plays, the scheme calls for the QB to read half the field. This isn't to say that Petty can't make the transition, particularly sitting on the bench for a year. Still, it's not my preference to select him before the third round, as there's value is shoring up other need/depth areas. Apart from Petty and passing on offensive talent in the first, this is an okay draft.
Petty looks like he is worth a 3 rd round pick to me as well. He is slinging that rock. He also looks tough, reminds me of Favre.
