Yup, this is my only problem with Powell. He's the Cotchery of RBs. He's not flashy, he's not going to hit homeruns, but he will almost always produce. The lack of explosiveness out of the backfield is a glaring hole but luckily, there are ways to address that via the draft. I'm hoping that Ridley came and went and we can move on with draft prep. Absolutely no need for him. He doesn't do what we need, and what he does do, Ivory does better.
Hell no, I'm not even sure he is solid. In fact except for 2012 when he was really good he hasn't done much of anything.
In what way? Ivory's big concern with the Saints was his injuries. He's been completely healthy with the Jets and his production and efficiency has only increased. Easily a top 15 Rb in this league, though obviously age will make him worse over time. Remember, over the past 2 years we're in the top 5 in running yards; some of that has to do with how often we run, but a lot of that is b/c of efficiency. And it's not like we have the Cowboy's OLine. Is that overrating Ivory?
He ok...... He's not great...... And Powell is a complete question mark...... If we bring ridley in, Its for competition and we keep the best 2 out of the 3......
Let's not forget that we will very likely be drafting an RB in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th round this year. I would be shocked if we didn't, actually, given the depth in the draft class and our need.
I think he's a great power back but that type of runner has been devalued in the league over the past decade. He's a tribute to vicious RB's of a bygone era but it's his lack of hands that will keep him from a huge contract.
Wouldn't be a bad move but I rather against it. We need a faster, shiftier back who can catch the ball out of the back field and is a good pass protector. If we don't get one in FA lets do it come draft day. I would pass on Ridley.
Ivory hasn't shown he can handle workload of primary back, only (1) 20+ carry game last season Powell was completely neglected from offense, a decent/fair scat back given attempts Ridley a fumbling machine who failed in New England Potential drafted rookie running back will be a rookie Rb is a glaring hole in the Jets.
Id say your right to a degree. But he has proven that he can carry the load on his shoulders if we need him to.I still hope we draft a RB in round 3 or 4 someone with breakaway speed
We need another solid RB. Ivory might get hurt again and if that happens, we can't rely on Powell and a rookie. We need another vet but not sure if Ridley is the answer.
How is anyone overrating Chris Ivory? I don't think anyone is suggesting he can carry the ball 20 times a game, but he absolutely has proven he can handle a majority of the workload. Considering Macc and Bowles (and Gailey) brought back Powell and paid him the way they did, it's safe to assume he's going to see carries. And that's not including whatever RB we may draft. Ivory is what he is... a downhill runner that absorbs contact well and wears down a defense. No one is making him out to be anything else.
Maybe the new regime isn't so in love with Ivory... I mean they weren't the ones that brought him in. Assuming they have real interest and want to sign Ridley - maybe it's to take away carries from Ivory and they still recognize the need for a speedy pass catcher out of the back field. We all don't know. Ridley's played in a spread offense system before as well. His fumbling issues are overblown. I'm not sitting here saying he's Marcus Allen but if he comes cheap its worth a signing. Assuming they draft someone, keeping 4 RBs isn't that big of a deal - they can get rid of useless FBs too if they wanted and stick with the 4 RBSs. Especially since the position itself is injury prone & we know the way Ivory runs, injuries are certainly a possibility. Having another veteran there isn't a bad thing. But its also possible they are just kicking the tires so to speak.
