Antonio Brown ran a 4.56 or 4.59 at the combine. Does anyone think he is a slow possession receiver? There is a lot more to being fast than straight line speed. Brown is one of the quickest (not fastest) WRs in the game in getting in and out of cuts. I see the same traits in Cooper who also happens to have much better straight line speed and is bigger. I like the comparisons of White to Dez in terms of size and ability to attack the ball. It just so happens that White also has a lot more speed than Dez (4.52). Imo we couldn't go wrong with either and I'd be happy with either. Mac and Co have an abundance of very talented players to choose from at #6 and if they rank several equally perhaps they can trade down to 10 or 12.
I like the Charlie casserly thinking, trade with Cleveland in the draft, take picks 12 and 19--and because of the draft point value system we would have to give them our 3rd , 4th , and 7th, so we would have 2 1st rounders and a 2nd rounder, assuming we are the secret team landing greg hardy we would only need 3 picks in the draft, a QB , another WR , and another running back, just saying, I can dream but damn that's some scenario lol
A 4.37 is quite a bit better than the reported 4.42 particularly given his superb short area quickness (aka "twitch"). Man the Jets will have a very difficult decision to make if they stay at #6. I hope the scouting dept is better this year cuz they reallllllly need to make the right pick.
For us... Amari Cooper would be the better WR for our scheme. I think Kevin White is the better big play maker and red zone threat. Amari is a better route runner and is more shifty than white.
people are sleeping on Parker he could be better than both but either way the top 3 are pretty good pickings this year at wideout
For me Cooper every time. I saw all the Alabama games last year and he bring so much to a team. He's smart, humble and a great team player. His route running is so good and he wrong foots backs before he gets to them., then when he gets the ball he is elusive and has a great change of gear. He would be the perfect player for the Jets, whoever we have at Q/B.
for whatever it's worth: http://espn.go.com/blog/oakland-rai...ve-much-better-rookie-season-than-kevin-white Unfortunately, Cooper will probably be gone to the Raiders at #4. Seems like a slam dunk. Reggie Mackenzie is not going to shoot for "upside" with Kevin White. Cooper is the safe, solid pick that will help him keep his job.
http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/cfb/41001/martin-alabama-wr-cooper-will-visit-the-jets Alabama WR Amari Cooper will visit the Jets on Thursday, according to Kimberly A. Martin. The move makes a lot of sense even with the Jets' added talent in the last two offseasons. The team took three receivers in last year's draft, but again, that should not prevent a team from selecting a talent like Amari who has traits that easily translate to the NFL. Those types of prospects are difficult to find, especially this year. Cooper wins on the ground with burst, acceleration run after the catch and little wasted movement. He is not a contested catch receiver, however. Mar 31 - 10:36 AM
no... NO.. . NO WAY should we take a WR at #6. Loser teams pick a WR that early. Detroit has arguably the best WR in history.. what has that done for them? NYG had a phenom rookie WR... what did that do for them? What did Watkins do for Buffalo? Who does NE have? Who does Seattle have? HELL NO TO WR AT #6 If you want to win you draft a difference maker on the DL, OL, pass-rushing OLB or a QB. THE END
I'll agree with QB and maybe OLB..what difference is any OL going to make on THIS team and we already have probably the best DL(unit) in the game.
I was speaking in general. Not just for this team, in this draft but for any team picking that high, in any draft. We probably do not need DL help but all others apply.
You don't take a player at those positions at #6 or anywhere else if the talent isn't there. Vernon Gholston was a DL/OLB taken at #6 overall. SF took Jerry Rice at #16 overall. How did that work out? If Rice had gone to a football factory instead of Miss. Valley State and been taken at #9 overall like Beckham the pick would have been just as brilliant.
Cooper and I wouldn't lose any sleep on it. He will be a stud for a long time. I think he will maintain pro bowl form longer than anyone else.
The franchise you are calling losers for taking Megatron early also drafted Stafford and Suh early. So by your reasoning they should be good because they took the franchise QB and difference making DL, no? Or you think it's Calvin Johnson that's dragging the team down? Teams will obviously prefer the pass rusher or QB if the talent is close. But if it isn't I don't think you reach for a guy just because of some philosophical aversion to certain positions.
I'm real weary of the Jets picking "high ceiling" guys. Stephen Hill, Gholston, and Ducasse come to mind. Not to say White will become like them, but I'd rather take the sure thing in Cooper. I don't think we will be kicking ourselves for ever making that decision even if White turns out to be slightly better.
