Here's a serious problem for the Jets, there isn't many backs that are smaller and fast in this draft. Ameer Abdullah is quick, not fast, but a tough runner for his size. David Johnson is fast for his size, good receiver out the back field, former WR. I would think our OC would want a receiving back that we sorely lack on our roster.
Vareen would have made sense. Ridley does not. Worth a camp invite I suppose but with Ivory Powell and Ridley we would still need another back.
If you thought his ball security was bad with the Patriots, just think how bad it will be with a fully inflated ball.
Yep. My thoughts exactly. If we go with the best pass rusher available at 6, then I hope we target Duke in the 3rd. My fear is he won't be there.
Isn't Powell a good WR out of the back field? That said I'd love if we could grab Ty Montgomery and use him in the role you are talking about as well as in the slot, reverses, KR, PR, Wildcat QB..etc. He could provide some of the elements we lost with Percy Harvin. Only problem is that I think his value is in the 5th and 6th round and we don't have any picks in those rounds.
Mike Davis, SC is a good all around back and very natural as a receiver out of backfield Duke Johnson is fine as well
I think he is which is why it confuses me when people say that he isn't an answer. He's not CJ Spiller but he can make things happen enough to the point where he's effective both catching the ball out of the backfield and blocking on passing downs. Ridley is a good back whose "ball security" issues are a bit overblown by Belichick because he simply sits down any player that fumbles. He's lost 6 fumbles in 672 touches, not great but he's not Tiki Barber pre-Coughlin.
He's coming off a injury. He'd be as good or better than any RB you guys provided he is healthy. His fumbling issues were always overblown because Belichick made a big deal out of every one and the timing of a couple o them. I think his touches per fumble numbers are on a par with the NFL average. I think if he is healthy and gets a fresh start he will definitely help some team. *EDIT: I just saw the post above me, kinda makes this point for me.
Not sure why everyone feels like you have to have a speed back. Powell is more than serviceable catching out of the backfield and that's what you need. Using ivory and ridley is a good mix to keep each guy fresh. They don't have to be vastly different styles.
Yeah as a receiver, as well as everything else, I think he's fine. He is your classic jack of all trades master of none running back. I think the leaves Jets fans wanting with regards to Powell being a 3rd down/"change of pace" back is his explosiveness/game breaking ability or lack there of. I'm guessing their ideal 3rd down back would be of the Sproles/Bush variety. A guy that can get you chunk yards on limited touches.
Yeah I'm definitely not against it. I like Ridley. I am just trying to figure out the plan. If we sign Ridley does that mean we don't draft a rb? And if we do who is competing for a roster spot? We'd be ivory Ridley powell Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
the player doesn't need to be smaller. But I get what you are saying, they need a speed guy or a guy who can receive. I like Tevin Coleman, he's a decisive north/south runner with speed. Idk how good he is as a receiver though
I think variety and diversity is always better than the alternative. You want to be able to present different looks and threats to a defense if you can. That said; it's not imperative.
I wouldn't have a problem having 4 RBs on the roster, I think it should be noted also that Chris Ivory is in a contract year. That has actually gone pretty unnoticed.
Maybe the Jets are getting the Pats ball carrier in the building to get info on how they inflate the balls?
