I agree that Powell isn't a feature or primary back, but I think he showed some ability in 2013 that he can carry the load if Ivory is injured. In 2013, he started 11 games, had 176 carries for 697 yards, a 4.0 average. If you take away his rookie season of 2011 where he only appeared in 2 games and had 13 carries, his career rushing average is 4.1 ypc. That's with a mediocre OL. I'm pretty sure that I recall both Bowles and Mac saying that Powell deserved more carries last season after his 2013 season and I believe had some other positive things to say about him. Remember that I like Langford and didn't trash him, I just think there are backs that are better and pointed out that Mac might make RB a priority position. Maybe Gailey has been in Mac's ear and said that he has to have a fast, receiving back out of the backfield to make his offense really work. IMO Langford and Powell are pretty equal in their abilities, and that's why I think the Jets would be better going in a different direction. They don't need two Bilal Powells on the roster (or even Powell and a slightly better Powell). Their third RB should offer something different. Just because a RB is faster, doesn't mean he doesn't have all around skills. It's not an either/or situation, and you don't know that it's not happening. It's one thing to say you don't think it's going to happen, and it well may not, but NONE of us knows what's going to happen.

Why are you getting so defensive and snippy? It isn't personal. I didn't trash your draft. In fact, I said I liked it and would be happy with it, but that if I had my "druthers" I'd perhaps go in a different direction with some of the picks. I don't understand posters posting mock drafts then getting all defensive when people disagree with them or want to discuss different options. If you're gonna get defensive over your "creation" if people disagree with it, then don't post it.

Trading down is not a bad way to go, but it's no panacea, either, as Parcells showed us in 1997 I believe. He passed up not only one, but two probably HOF LTs in that draft and the players he got were not that good. As much as I'd love to add a stud OLB or WR, if I'm Mac and I really like one of the LT prospects, I'd seriously have to consider and weigh offers of trading down and taking my future LT with my first round pick. In fact, in my previous post to you in this thread, I said that I'd even strongly consider not taking Mariota if he was there and instead trading down and taking a LT, and you know how much I want the Jets to get Mariota. I think the LT position is that important. I'd take Mariota, but getting that future LT is probably my #2 priority. We all know and you and I have agreed that we're not going to fill all the needs in this draft. If Mac gets the option to trade down, it will be interesting to see whether he wants to try to fill as many holes as possible, or just stay put and take the BAPs at each spot in the draft. For that matter, if they really covet Mariota, they may try to trade up with TN.

I am in total agreement with you about solidifying the OG positions and preventing a strong interior pass rush. That doesn't mean that Mac will necessarily draft an OG, or even if he does, that that player will be ready to start and play at a high level this season. If he takes Cann or Tomlinson, then yes, they probably, if not undoubtedly, will. Mac may have his eye on a veteran or two that he thinks will be camp cuts, or he may decide to wait and see how all the OGs they have on the roster now perform in OTAs, mini-camps and TC.

I really like Powell as well, and I would really like for Duke Johnson or a David Johnson to be available in the 4th round or so, but I don't think that will happen. I think Langford slides to the 4th and he's the best available back in that round. Langford at least as the experience on taking a work-load. Think of this pick as insurance. In terms of all around backs, Langford is pretty good.

The 2nd and 3rd rounds were tough. I wanted to get some splashy guys, but I realized this team needs some big help at several positions so I had to give up the possibility of a WR or a RB. I think Paul Dawson could be a good linebacker at the next level, he could be one of the biggest steals of the draft. Jets severely need one that has good coverage skills.

Oh BTW, wasn't getting defensive - if I came off that way, my apologies - I honestly didn't even notice.

If the Jets cannot grab - Cooper, Fowler or Mariota - I definitely trade down and take Collins from LSU. I really like that guy's versatility and he can play LT at the next level. You also have Peat who is strickly a LT. I like Collins a lot more. You can put him at RT for a year or so, then slide him over to LT when you decide Brick's play has declined to the point where he's no longer effective. We defintely have to fix this line, no doubt about that.

Very anxious to know how that private visit went.

Do you really think Johnson will go before Langford? That's a bit surprising.

I'm glad you weren't getting defensive. Maybe it was just me, but that's the way it came across.

I'm with you that if the Jets can't get Cooper, Fowler or Mariota to trade down and take Collins. Not sexy for many Jets fans perhaps, but adding Brick's potential replacement and letting him play OG or RT this year would be huge. I assume they'd get a 3rd or perhaps a 2nd for trading down. With that additional high pick, they could still wind up with a WR, OLB and OG or RB in the first 3 rounds and then add whichever they didn't get in the 4th if Mac balances need with BAP.

People are saying David Johnson has the best hands out of any of the RBs available. I think teams will look at his ability to catch the football and someone will take him over Langford. Also, I could see David moving around as a hybrid H-Back, doing some TE work as well. Langford doesn't have that versatility.

I really like Duke Johnson more - that guy to me has some special ability out of the back-field ... I would love to grab him, but he'll def be gone by the time we pick in the 4th.

It would suck if Cooper, Fowler and Mariota are ALL gone by the time we pick. Man that would suck big time. I don't know how far we would trade down to take Collins, he could be gone by the 15th pick or around there - trading down will be risky if he's the guy you want. Now that I think about Fowler, I like him - but if we can grab another 2nd round pick then I am trading down. I really would like to get an offensive player with star potential if we stay at 6.

If we trade down, get Collins (first round), Nate Orchard (DE - Utah, 2nd round), AND another receiver (2nd round / 3rd round). That would make me feel better about the situation.

BTW - I have no issues in regards to your comments on my mock - shit, if anything I am enjoying these particular discussions.

If the Jets want to trade down and pick Collins, I think they would need to stay in front of the Giants.

The longer we wait, the less I like Mariota.

Would it be exciting? Sure, of course. But that's a high pick to spend on such a risky prospect. I'm not sure how much better at throwing he is than Geno (Geno's probably even better and has a stronger arm and that isn't saying much). Do i believe in Geno? No. But Mariota won't help that much more this year in his rookie season, and I'm not so sure I want to spend the next 3 years wondering if he's the guy.

Especially if an "Andrew Luck" or "Peyton Manning" prospect type comes along the next couple seasons.

I totally understand your concerns about Mariota and why you wouldn't want the Jets to take him. That said, unless Bowles is as bad or worse than Rex as a HC, do you really think the Jets will have any kind of realistic chance to draft that "sure thing" QB if one does come along? I don't. If another Andrew Luck comes along, the team who has the #1 pick in the draft is going to take him and wouldn't accept 10 first round picks for him.

With our defense- we're going to be no WORSE than a 7-9 or 6-10 team for the next 5 years.

We're not going to be in the hunt for the number 1 pick even if by some miracle Andrew Luck 2.0 is in the draft.

But then and only then we can trade up as I'm sure the worst team in the league from the prior year would love to deal the next Andrew Luck.

Agreed. That's why I think those who want to wait for a sure thing aren't being realistic. There's no way we'd get within sniffing distance of that QB even if one came along.

My three favorite draft scenarios for first four rounds:

    1. Amari Cooper
    2. Eli Harold
    3. Garrett Grayson
    4. Jeremy Langford

    1. Randy Gregory
    2. Dorial Green-Beckham
    3. Grayson
    4. Langford

    1. Marcus Mariota
    2. Green-Beckham
    3. Markus Golden
    4. Langford

Yes, the O-Line needs work, but assuming Mangold, Carpenter, & Ferguson are quality starters, I think we can find two more between Colon, Giacomini, Winters, Freeman, Aboushi, Johnson, Brewer, Hilliard, Dozier, Qvale, Ijalana, and Hooey. Then load up on linemen in 2016.

Good point - Brandon Scherff, could still be on the clock as well. Giants do need a good LT however ... they could go Peat which would be really awesome.

I disagree with your choices on several points. One, I wouldn't touch Gregory now He's stupid. Two, I don't think Grayson is a good prospect at all, and wouldn't waste a draft pick on him. Three, Ferguson is no longer a quality or reliable starter imo. His play has sharply dropped off the last couple of seasons. He's due 17 million next season, not worth anywhere near that, probably won't take a big pay cut, and I don't think the Jets can afford to pay him $17 million, not and re-sign Mo Wilk. You don't want a rookie LT starting protecting your QB's blind side, either. You also don't want to have to go into next year's draft having to find and draft his replacement. What if there are no topflight LT prospects next season? What if all the better LT prospects either stay in school or have suffered major injuries and it is questionable whether they'd even be ready for the start of TC or the season?

There isn't an obvious stud LT prospect in this draft unfortunately. I think the Jets have to find and get one of the top 2-3 LT prospects in this draft, however. They're not going to be able to get one in FA or the draft. Like QBs, LT prospects go quickly in the draft. The other issue is that if Bowles and Mac are any good at all at their jobs, the Jets won't be in good draft position to get either a starting QB or LT without having to trade the ranch to move up. If necessary, I wouldn't care if the Jets used their first 4 draft picks to secure Mariota and whichever LT prospect they like best. I think it that important, even as much as we need another RB, a pass rushing OLB, another OG and some other positions.

With Gregory, I believe there's agood chance he was telling the truth: he used to be addicted and is done now. There was marijuana left in his system from December. But I get your point.

Grayson comes from a non star studded team and knows how to play in a pro style offense. I don't think we've seen anything near his ceiling yet.

On Ferguson, he hasn't had a quality guard next to him for several years. Guard play can help tackle play A LOT. And it's not like we couldn't grab a tackle in FA. I think there's a chance Brick will take a pay cut since he's been a jet so long, but if not, grab a FA or draft somebody.

I really like the idea of getting Cooper first. Let's look at Jets starting receivers in the last several years: Marshall, Decker, Kerley, Salas (briefly), Nelson, Gates (briefly), Hill, Holmes, Schilens (briefly), Mason, Burress, Edwards, Cotchery. Only 3 of those 13 are draft picks. It's time to draft a real #1 receiver for once.

You could very well be right on all counts, but this is just what I think/anticipate.

That's fine, no one said that we had to agree. :)

I'm certainly no expert on weed, but it is my understanding that there's no way it would stay in his system for 4 months. Gregory smoked again and is lying imo.

Grayson had Cooks, one of the best WRs in last year's draft for 2 years I think. IMO the only thing he has going for him is that he played in a pro-style offense and has some size. He has little athleticism and I'm not wild about his arm, accuracy or football IQ.

You have a point about Brick not having a quality OG beside him, but that doesn't matter when he whiffs on blocks and gets beaten to the outside.

I'd love to add a 1st round WR. I wanted one last year if the Jets didn't take Bridgewater. I've also been wanting a stud pass rusher for over 10 years. With Bowles being a defensive coach, I think the Jets take the pass rusher if Mariota isn't there, but could be wrong. If Mariota's gone at #6, I wouldn't hate it if the Jets too Cooper or White, just don't think they will.

Yeah, I doubt they get Cooper/White, but it would be awesome if they did. Yeah I remember seeing OB Jr. mocked to th jets last year... THAT would've been something.

I keep reading about Grayson having decent size but when I watched him play this year he didn't look very big at all. Kind of on the lower end of average. He's 6-2 213. That's not big in my book. Hell Sanchez was 6-2 227 when he came out and he wasn't big. I don't start thinking "size" until someone is over 6-3 and over 225 or has the frame to get over 225.

I've said it before, he reminds me of Kellen Clemens with a lesser arm.

I want nothing to do with Grayson. The only other QB I would even think of considering is Hundley, and I really don't like his game at all. He has potential however.

You are referring to Sean Mannion. He also, is a pretty bad QB.

Langford looks like another Powell. Which isn't a complaint but why draft another jackofall/masterofnone ?
